"We have a new professor, she's..." hot, "pretty cool so far." West provided. And hey, Ves would get to see for herself next term.
"Yep, 2 galleons, 9 sickles." West said, another winning smile and he waited for her to pay him. He made sure that she had before announcing her hint, expression turning dramatic, with the pause and everything.
"Out of the ten jars under the cover, only three jars have an odd number of eggs." West said ingeniously. "Write your guesses down on this bit of parchment." He offered her a parchment scrap, and a quill.
Vesper was jealous that they had new Professors...and seriously could not wait to come to Hogwarts...It was better than the dinosaurs that taught her currently, anyway......And she didn't just call anyone a dinosaur, either. They looked the part.
After handing over the money, she accepted the quill and piece of parchment. Merlin, that was a lot to think about...but she tried coming at it in other ways...like...how many eggs did ashwinders lay...and were they jarred per ashwinder...Hmm. 10 jars...If they had something like...6 individually, that'd be 60...but three were not even numbers...
Hmmmmm.
Handing it over, she shrugged. "There." SPOILER!!: Blonde lady!
"I see." And what was that cause? Ola wasn't stupid, she raised one eyebrow and eyed this boy, payyy for his education? Since when was Hogwarts a school that required fees to attend? Seriously, Durmstrang, so much better. The former Durmstrang Head girl had a moment of thanks for being sent there instead of having to attend Hogwarts with her brother and sister.
Not that Neptune had ever mentioned having to pay for things. She counted out 1 galleon and 13 sickles for the boy as he gave his hint. Five? Only one had five? And of the five jars there were less than seven... and there were... ten jars total?
She mentally decided that there were 29 eggs amongst those 5 jars then, and listening to the hint the other customer bought, decided that meant of the other five jars, two of them had odd numbers. And probably were around the same amount...

"Wouldya mind writing your guess down here?" West said, sliding quill and parchment to the blonde woman, not wanting to spoil guesses for other people or have any sly folk come along and guess things that others had already narrowed down.
Because he was clever and because he totally noticed this lady had paid attention to Vesper's hint too.

Accepting payment, the Slytherin Captain smiled charmingly at the lady...She was rather beautiful, too...not that he'd ever really cared too much for blondes. He'd dated one, of course...but had quickly lost interest...
...And YES, he was glancing at the girl West was speaking to, giving curious eyes. Odessa seemed awfully excited to see her....but Dylan finally gave up on trying to understand, turning his attention back to his own customer. She'd just finished writing her guesses down, too.
Pulling the piece of parchment closer, he ran his eyes along the jumble of numbers and sadly shook his own blonde head.
"I'm awfully sorry, ma'am. These are incorrect." The Slytherin wasn't genuinely sorry...but hopefully she believed he was.
"...Would you like to try again...or would you just like to buy a jar straight up...Four galleons."...which was cheap considering that ashwinder eggs usually went for 1 galleon apiece...
