She was a Ravenclaw after all! Weren't they supposed to know how to solve problems and figure stuff out?
Okay. This was it. She asked him a simple question and he would answer it with a simple answer. He could probably shorten everything he wanted into a few words but at this point, now that he was REALLY supposed to tell her what was going on, he couldn't seem to utter single syllable words. He was going to say it, he really was, he just needed some time. Elise was still talking, at least, so this bought him plenty of time! Or it did until she tripped. Somehow it seemed that the two of them had absolutely perfect timing when it came to this kind of thing.
She fell forward and, luckily, was close enough to reach over for Chris and fall on him. They both fell to the ground within seconds, him breaking most of the fall. And before he could even stop himself, he burst out into a fit of laughter. This entire situation. Finding Elise crying, confessing everything, arguing, tripping, it was all suddenly so hilarious to him! They had put themselves through so much and what for?
Holding his stomach, he laughed and tried to make it seem as though he was checking to see if Elise was okay. Too bad all of his ridiculous laughing was getting in the way of him actually finding out. "E-E-ELISE!" He managed to get out, in between "hahas" and "hehes." While laughing, he saw her confused expression, probably thinking he had finally gone mad after all this time. Just the thought of it brought back images of sad Elise and how she felt about her dad at St. Mungos and that was, by far, enough to get him to shut up without a second thought.
Now that all of his nonsense was done with, he figured this was his sign...ACTUALLY, he had given up on signs after they started arguing with each other but if he had been looking for a sign, THIS WOULD BE IT!! Christopher sat up straighter, making sure Elise was okay where she was at, and he watched as a few strands of hair fell onto her face. Reaching over to place them behind her ear, he was able to catch her glance and see the blue eyes that made him feel as much as he did now. This was it.
Smiling like a baffoon, he finally found the courage. "It's you." And that was all that mattered, wasn't it? They had come this far which was an accomplishment in itself. "Now the only question is...if you feel the same way?" He shut his eyes tight, afraid to see disappointment of some sort in her eyes, and waited carefully for her response.
Sweet Mother of Merlin, did he have to look so irresistible when he was that frustrated? It wasn't really doing anything for her sanity, especially not when all she wanted to do was just close the distance and kiss him senseless. She was obviously frustrated enough not to really care anymore and she didn't know if she could take any more of the suspense. It really was horrible when her brain failed her when she most needed it. Some Ravenclaw she was, quick of thought and whatever...
not.
She closed her eyes, bracing herself for impact with the wooden flooring but instead finding her fingers tangled in some kind of fabric and that she hadn't really hit the floor. Instead, it was a really warm surface, strange since Winter was already fast approaching and it being November. She'd barely registered that she hadn't hit the floor when said warm surface began vibrating and she forced her eyes back open. She'd fallen on a hysterically laughing Chris.
Why on earth was he laughing? Was it because she had something on her face or in her hair? Or was her expression too serious? Lifting one hand to her head, she tried looking for something in her hair and found none. Did she have something in her teeth? Blinking quizzically at him, she decided to just wait and watch him for a while. He'd eventually give away what was so funny, he always did.
He eventually stopped laughing, though and Elise's breath hitched as he reached over to tuck a few stray strands of hair behind her ear. Could he see what he was doing to her? That he was driving her absolutely insane? Everyone else seemed to think that he knew, especially Kat. It was strange, even, how Kat seemed to think more than anyone else that he was doing it all on purpose. What he said she hadn't expected, though. Just those two syllables, enough to turn her entire world upside down and make her want to dance around the whole school and fly without a broom. She was so... happy! It was a feeling beyond explaining, just indescribable. Like she'd somehow managed to defy gravity, the best magic she'd ever experienced. Was this what listening to her heart meant?
Now the only question is if you feel the same way? Elise tried to breathe in enough to say something, nothing seemed to be coming out and her face was quickly turning a colour more suited for a Caribbean peach than her face. So, trying a different approach, she raised her hand to caress his cheek, leaned in and softly pressed her lips to his.
She'd kissed him before, twice, but she had never been the one to initiate anything and she'd never let herself go enough to try. But now? She couldn't understand why she'd taken so long to do it, to just kiss him and forget what else would happen after. It felt so right, some kind of beautiful magic that made her see stars and her heart flutter.
"So is that enough of an answer for you?" she whispered, barely pulling away from him. Because it had to be, it just had to. There was no way she could possibly describe the way her breath always caught in her throat whenever he looked at her or the butterflies she felt or the fact that she just felt so complete around him.
"Just... tell me I'm not dreaming, Chris."
