The first thing West did was go outside since there were always a billion and one things outside that could be used for potions. He also had no intention of going for anything overly dangerous or valuable since that'd be stupid and a waste. All the same he wanted to at least find useful and interesting things, even if he wasn't sure exactly how Lafay would grade them. Did it matter what they brought?
He went to the butterfly garden for once reason and one reason only: caterpillars. Sliced ones were used in shrinking solution amongst other things, he knew, so seemed like a good idea. From his potions kit he took an empty flask, and held that at the ready and soon enough yepppp there were some caterpillars. He grabbed two fat ones and eyed them for a moment.

.... not that he was hungry, just memories and all.
They went in the flask and West headed off to look for his next ingredient.
