Shifting her eyes from him to the desk she smiled a little. Who wouldn't smile at ice cream, the best comfort food ever, but was it strange that the professors kept offering it. Didn't Hadley offer it on her visit to her favorite house mom. "Thank you sir." she said as he pushed a bowl to her.
There was the word that made her frown, test scores.. So he knew exactly why she was not wanting to be in his class. Taking a deep breath, oh he was giving her some credit, well she really didn't need the credit, "Sir, thank you for the complement, but I don't think I am. Failure is something I have never done before, so I'm not sure how to go about this at all." She had turned this over and over it was bad enough the A she had received in Charms, one of her top classes, but then the P in Astronomy. She shook her head to herself a bit.
Playing with the spoon, she didn't take a bite. Her want of the comfort food just wasn't there at the moment. Her eyes shot up as he said transcript. He was looking at her transcript, did he have to see if she was dumb all the time, maybe he wanted to prove she shouldn't be there at all.
Then the dreaded words came out of his mouth, how on earth did she explain last term. All her grades slipped, she thought about the letter she sent trying to explain it to Shirmer and how disappointed her response was. It was hard enough to read disappointment, but see it. Not that she knew he would show it since he didn't know her as well. "Well Professor, I had many things in my personal life that affected my focus. I know that shouldn't be an excuse and I do regret letting things take priority over classes, that typically does not happen." She looked down again, feeling her own disappointment hit her again. She swallowed hard feeling her emotions kick in, but didn't want them around in front of a professor.
Airey leaned back in his seat a bit to allow her to speak and he was trying his best to not let his ice cream distract him from the conversation at hand. It was sort of hard to do since this sort of social interaction was foreign and awkward to him. Why couldn't professors just profess? Or, um, not profess exactly...just teach. Education. Facts.
Although he had been told that this was also part of the whole education picture and was actually part of why he had been interested in returning to Hogwarts as a professor in the first place. He had been lucky enough to have had one to point him in the right direction, so if he could do even a fraction of that for students then he would consider himself a successful educator.
But he was obviously doing the opposite for Miss Wheatborn.
Waiting until she was finished speak, Airey took a long sip from his cup and then set it down next to his bowl. What to say? Where to begin? Why couldn't there be a formula for this sort of thing? "I have one question for you, Miss Wheatborn. This failure, as you call it, what do you want to do about it? My concern is not over just your grades, but whether or not you are content with this failure." He paused just for a moment to lean on his desk a bit and fold his fingers together. "As the great muggle bucketball player once said, I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can't accept not trying."
Which was his round about way of sending her a message and pointing her in a certain direction without saying it outright. Kids were supposed to come to these conclusions on their own, right? Quote:

I want to know more about this subject!” Sonea smiled again and really hoped that she could learn a little more, she wanted to be the best in everything she did and this subject was something she wanted to know better.
The young girl suddenly realized that she sounded a little like a Ravenclaw student and shivered. She didn’t wanted to be one of them! No, Sonea made herself the promise that she would study in silence and that she would try to not be in the middle of the attention, she would learn more and when the school year was over she would surprise everybody with her good grades! Airey grinned at the girl, his eyes practically twinkling with her compliment. "Glad you enjoyed it. I hope that you like the rest of what I have planned this term." There would be no more black hole talk, but things would still be related to stars.
"Oh, um...." he said while grabbing a file off his desk and flipping through it a bit to glance over his notes. "Well, would you like to give the star project a try?" he asked as he glanced over his grade book. She hadn't completed it and it would help her catch up with the rest of her classmates. "I can give you access to the laboratory if you are interested." SPOILER!!: Daichi Quote:

Taking a sip from his hot chocolate drink (the icecream was already in his stomach) he listened to his words and sighed softly. "Well, whoever made the food at the start of term feast should not make it again" he chuckled and now hoped that it hadn't been THIS Professor who had made it. Eh? that would be awkward. But...Awkward was what he lived for it seemed. "I... i didn't mean to, you know, make you uncomfortable with these..little problems" he said slowly after noticing the hesitation. "It's just... i don't really know who else to speak to" he mumbled, biting his lower lip before he took another sip of his chocolate. Eyes fixed to the desk, he continued. "I don't know why but you're the only adult i talk with..." "I actually planned on seeing Professor Magnus but i didn't know she would be gone this term" Why must he always procrastinate things to the last minute? Or in this case, last school year.
And there it came, the *polite* scolding. The Slytherin crossed his arms over each other and seemed to shrink in his chair. This was truly embarrassing especially because those words sounded very familiar. "You sound like my father..." he responded after the Professor was finished and he sighed. "I'm sorry, i can't help it, thats just who i am..i've been worrying about things all my life and i just can't..." Another deep sigh followed as he placed the cup of hot chocolate down on the desk.
What did he like?

eeeeeeh...... "Why is it always THIS question?!" he asked , more to himself but whatever. He thought about what he liked and there were a few things but. "I don't think the things i like can help me find a job.." he said after a moment of thinking. "Well, i really like ducks! ...but i guess that was not what you were looking for...ehm...what else?" think Daichi! think! "Food!...no..." "I think i like fashion a little bit as well. I mean, i like shopping in muggle stores..."
another long silence... "This isn't going anywhere right, sir? But i guess i don't want to do anything in the magical world"
"That...would have been Toddles," he said with a small chuckle. Staff had been preoccupied with other things to worry about.
And we were just going to ignore the father comparison for now, okay? It sort of freaked the man out a little. Fatherhood just wasn't something in the stars for him right now. Shiver.
"BECAUSE, best do something that you like than something that feels like you are torturing yourself with, wouldn't you say?" Airey responded. Even if the question was most likely a rhetorical one. So he liked ducks and food....it would be back for him to suggest becoming a chef that specialized in duck cuisine, right? "Have you considered a career in creatures? You could specialize in birds I hear." In which case he shoul go and speak to the new professor because she would know a lot more about that than him. He now knew about the boy's fear of fire to a certain extent, so he wouldn't bring up a culinary career. That option was out the window and in another galaxy.
FASHION! He knew something about that. Well, he knew about suits and color pallets to a certain extent. He had a thought - perhaps not the most glamorous of jobs for a graduated seventh year prefect - but it would tide him over until he figured out what he wanted to do in the long run.
"What about finding a job in fashion? Work in a store as a clerk to start until you discover your true passion." It just might be hard for the boy to want to motivate himself in his studies at Hogwarts considering that very few classes really were applicable to muggle fashion store. "If it is in muggle fashion perhaps you could speak with Professor Cerulean." She was the Muggle Studies professor after all.
Although he knew his way around the muggle fashion scene pretty darn well if he did say so himself - once he had figured out that the one shop was a costume shop and not for the every day look that is.
