Ah. There it was. And he couldn't help but smile at her and her brute honesty.

"You have every right to be in my lessons, Miss Wheatborn. Regardless of grades and test scores," he replied before taking a slow sip of his tea to think about what to say next. Was it too soon to bring out the ice cream? He was sort of wanting some to appease his sweet tooth and vanilla did go nicely with his selection of tea. Retrieving two bowls next, he plopped one scoop each into them and pushed one towards the girl. "You are already a better person than I was at your age, Mis Wheatborn. You see, I failed my Care of Magical Creatures OWL, but the following term I did not even bother stepping foot in the vicinity. I gave up so to speak and something tells me that you are the type of person to refuse to do that and that is the business you had attending class." It was really just process of elimination as far as he was concerned.

He paused a moment to pop some ice cream in his mouth and then reached for that file on his desk.

"According to your transcript, you had been doing just fine in the subject until last term." Which made him feel really uncomfortable. What if HE was the problem as a professor? "What do you think happened there?"
Minerva sipped her tea still feeling her stomach in knows, but his next words made her look at him a bit startled. So she wasn't here because she did something wrong, or that he felt she was to dumb for his class or for him to be bothered by. Sighing a bit of relief, she set her cup down.

Shifting her eyes from him to the desk she smiled a little. Who wouldn't smile at ice cream, the best comfort food ever, but was it strange that the professors kept offering it. Didn't Hadley offer it on her visit to her favorite house mom. "Thank you sir." she said as he pushed a bowl to her.

There was the word that made her frown, test scores.. So he knew exactly why she was not wanting to be in his class. Taking a deep breath, oh he was giving her some credit, well she really didn't need the credit, "Sir, thank you for the complement, but I don't think I am. Failure is something I have never done before, so I'm not sure how to go about this at all." She had turned this over and over it was bad enough the A she had received in Charms, one of her top classes, but then the P in Astronomy. She shook her head to herself a bit.

Playing with the spoon, she didn't take a bite. Her want of the comfort food just wasn't there at the moment. Her eyes shot up as he said transcript. He was looking at her transcript, did he have to see if she was dumb all the time, maybe he wanted to prove she shouldn't be there at all.

Then the dreaded words came out of his mouth, how on earth did she explain last term. All her grades slipped, she thought about the letter she sent trying to explain it to Shirmer and how disappointed her response was. It was hard enough to read disappointment, but see it. Not that she knew he would show it since he didn't know her as well. "Well Professor, I had many things in my personal life that affected my focus. I know that shouldn't be an excuse and I do regret letting things take priority over classes, that typically does not happen." She looked down again, feeling her own disappointment hit her again. She swallowed hard feeling her emotions kick in, but didn't want them around in front of a professor.
