The smile he’d gotten from Natasha had eased Dorian’s nerves even more than he’d already gotten over them before. That and the semi-unexpected kiss, but then they’d still technically been alone so he imagined that was the reasoning behind her feeling free to show that bit of affection. Of course, he hadn’t exactly taken his arm from around her waist either, but then, he was showing that he was finally past everything. It was a new Dorian, at least sort of. Maybe it was more that he was back to the way he’d been before, when he’d been younger. Either way, her words had put a wry smile on his face. “No, she wouldn’t be, but that’s why we’ll just make sure things go as planned,” he responded with a nod, tightening his arm around her in a slight hug to show that he wasn’t going anywhere.

Not even as another voice had spoken, revealing that the next person to arrive was none other than the one he’d been thinking about before he’d arrived. The one that had given him that moment of thinking about not attending, but he wasn’t about to hide. He wasn’t that type of person. Wes knew that, and he knew that himself. It wasn’t Roxanne’s fault that things had gotten so very awkward, so he gave her a pleasant nod as his companion had greeted her. “You look…well,” he said, raising an eyebrow a bit at certain things. Maybe that meant he was even safer from the awkwardness, if she’d moved on. Anyway, before any more stilted conversation could be had, more people started to arrive. He’d given Aron a nod, as well as Melissa, the new YATI he wasn’t entirely familiar with yet, and Simon. There wasn’t any need for him to neglect any of his colleagues after all, even if they hadn’t addressed him. As well as the girl he’d thought was one of Isobel’s employees in Mysteries, who got a nod as well. She looked like she was wondering why she was there, which he could still sort of relate to.

Another wry smile had crossed his face as Damien had lurked into the room with a scowl. Apparently he hadn’t changed any, and he left the former MLEer to his post and his flask. It wasn’t worth interrupting him, and he hadn’t known the man as much as Evander had, or even Wes, anyway. There were plenty others he could talk to if he so chose, and his grey eyes took in another of the department heads as she’d arrived and silently made her way over to set a gift down on the table Natasha had pointed out before. It was a neutral party, so he gently excused himself from her side to approach the brunette. There would be plenty more time to spend with his, well, he wasn’t entirely sure what to call her. Girlfriend seemed like it wasn’t enough. “I’m sure things will only get more crowded before they get going,” he observed, nodding slightly as he got closer. “Head of Magical Creatures, correct? You brought the dogs down when we were investigating the food court,” he said. Nobody said he was expert at opening conversation, not after staying to himself for so long. At least it was something, though, and maybe it would help her relax.
