He found it amusing that they were convinced Milton was really too dumb to graduate, and that he had cheated the system. Or just got lucky. To be honest, he was a little perplexed by that, too.
As they rambled on, Milton's arms folded over his chest and leaned against the table. Apparently, he should stay behind at Hogwarts forever because he was too dumb to survive in the real world and the only people that would save his butt were in this castle.
And, of course, Lottie brought up the plant. Milton tried not to roll his eyes. IT COULD HAVE HAPPENED TO ANYONE, YOU KNOW. But of course, they were only looking out for him. Snort.
Once they seemed to be done talking, Milton nodded veeery slowly, trying to form his thoughts into words. "Well, first of all, I'm flattered that you want me to stick around forever." That was saying something with these two girls. "I'm also insulted and rather impressed that you managed to call me an idiot ten times without actually calling me an idiot, so good job there." Look at them, being all Ravenclaw-like and stuff.
Then a little smirk grew on Milton's face. "If I didn't know you two any better, I'd say you just want me to stick around because you liiiiiike meeeee." Yeah? Come on, he had to have grown on them. He was amazing, after all. Quote:

Uh-huh and Lottie directly brought up the plant. It was one of there strongest points in this arguments you know. It took everything in her to not sigh at the memory. Bloody plant took it's time. What ever happened to not playing with your food? But that wasn't the point now was it? No. The point was that they all saved him and that if they'd all decided to sit around one large fireplace and drink hot chocolate while he was screaming down in the greenhouse then he wouldn't be here now. People in the big world preferred hot chocolate to daring feats of blatant stupidity for people they don't like. Think about that.
She kept her expression nice and pleasant as he took a moment to organize his thoughts. It was a lot, but it was important and needed to be said. Once he started talking they'd know if he understood.
...
Lex beamed at him. Heh, he'd noticed the oh so subtle insults. Good on him. She could almost pat him on the back for it...but she didn't because of the next thing he said. Blink. Blink. MERLIN!
She took a step forward, closing the distance between them both then tapped his head a few times with her knuckles and her own head leaned in close enough to listen. After a few taps she looked to Lottie. "It sounds hollow. There couldn't have been much blocking the information from getting in; how in Merlin's beard did he misunderstand everything we just said." This was serious Lottie! He was even worse than they thought!! Don't graduate Milton, you'll never survive!! ![Whaa?](images/smilies/whaa_smilie.png)
Perhaps he wasn't such an idiot, because...unlike Aidan, he actually noticed when he was being insulted. Kudos for that, Milton! Also, "That's the nicest thing you've ever said," because she took the idiot part as a compliment. It wasn't easy to select synonyms for such an obvious word, or to say things as delicately as possible while having a very civil conversation.
So, yes, thank you. A hair flip would've happened if she didn't feel his compliment will lead them nowhere. He was still considered dumb.
AND NO. Ughhhh. He was impossible! He was gonna get run over by the train, you'll see! So, yes, she did roll her eyes at his last comment (even if maybe she did like him a liiittle bit, maybe, we're not sure). Eyes on Lex now. "Do you reckon whatever was left of his ability to understand us actually left with his hair?" Lottie was only, very seriously, discussing this matter with Lex, right in front of Milton. Like he would understand them, right? HAHA.
But back to Milton, "You do know us, though, which is why you know we're not even joking about this." The smile was gone. Maybe smiling too much made him believe that. "You'll keep Oakey company, when he stays after next term, too." Oakey. Sigh. Now, THAT was a Hufflepuff she wanted to keep, because he made smoothies. |
