SPOILER!!: Tarot Cards
The first to answer was also correct.
"Very good Miss Potter, you are right about those things, but I will further elaborate on each of the terms." She gave the Hufflepuff a smile before looking to the other kids.
"Thank you Mr. Stonewall for that clarification, you are correct the Major Arcana is comprised of the 'face' cards whereas the Minor Arcana are the suited cards." Jory had always shown an interest in her lessons so it was a pleasure to see him working as hard as ever.
"A good start Miss Wheatborn, I don't expect you to have known what they all meant right off the bat." Callie gave the Puff a smile after she recounted her answer.
The Hufflepuffs were on their game today. Callie was impressed by their knowledge of Tarot cards and was even further impressed by the Prefect's knowledge of the origins of the term Arcana.
"Very good Miss Lecium, often times when we know the origins and roots of words it can help us understand things without having much experience."
The cogs and wheels were definitely working in this Puff's head and Calista watched with an amused smile as she finally gave an answer.
"Yes, we will be dealing with cards today Miss Bishop."
After her question had been asked she had assumed that the students would be the ones taking on the task of trying to piece together what she was wanting but she caught sight of a noticeable suppression of delight in Mr. Reynolds. She turned to him with a smile before answering the students.
A point in her field?
"Yes, even if you do not know what the Arcanas are you have used your deductive reasoning to come to the conclusion that we are going to be using cards today, very good Miss Dawnsel."
She was about to call on another student with a raised hand when the Ravenclaw asked another, off topic question; one that caught her off guard. Elwood looked from the girl to the Board of Governors Candidate sitting not three feet from her before slowly giving her answer.
"Miss Dawnsel, that is really neither here nor there, we are in the middle of a lesson. Although I do possess the gift of Sight I will not be using it to sway voters either this way or another. Besides with things of this nature there are far too many individual Fates at work to have a decisive answer to that." In other words no. Sorry.

The next to speak up was another Hufflepuff, the male half of the Greingoth twins. "You think correctly Mr. Greingoth." Callie winked at the boy who was smiling and obviously proud of himself for giving the right answer.

"Umm, Professor Flamsteed--" Before she could finished her sentence though, he was already speaking.
A
date? Why did he say that? The color rose in her cheeks for a second before she was able to shake it off with a laugh. Surely the kids wouldn't think they were actually going on a date. It was cleaning, cleaning HE wanted to do.
"Yes, I remember. I will meet you there." She said quietly with a suppressed smile at him. She could NOT believe he had just interrupted her lesson for that little display.
Not waiting for Airey to leave, Calista turned back to the class and pushed a strand of her hair behind her ear, collecting herself.
"Right well, despite Professor Flamsteed's...odd appearance, we will not be doing a form of Divination which will let us learn about him, at least not directly." She reached her hand over to the small box on the table next to her chair and lifted the lid. She tilted it over and pulled out a deck of cards.
"Tarot cards are one of the most widely known and practiced forms of Divination throughout the muggle and Magical worlds. There have been about 8,000 different sets made but we are going to focus on just one, for the sake of simplicity. We are all beginners, right?" The blonde paused to make sure they were taking notes before continuing.
"The Rider-Waite Tarot deck is the most widely used set in the Western world. Can anyone tell me what the standardized number of cards is for this particular deck?"
Selina tried to suppress her moan when she figured out that they would be working with tarot cards. It was not that she didn't enjoy everything that Elwood taught them, honest, it was just that tarot cards were kind of parlor tricks. And as much as she didn't particularly like her affinity for Divination tarot cards felt like a muggle movie.
Although, what made her feel even sillier was that she knew the answer. When she was younger Kurumi and her used to play a game with tarot cards. It was like a testing game of sorts. They had spent a ton of time just goofing off with them. So yeah, she knew how many cards were in the deck
not that she needed them.
Raising her hand she said,
"Typically 78. Honestly, it depends. You can't say definitively how many are in the deck. It depends on if you have an honest reader or not." How many sideshows just loaded their decks with the more interesting tarot cards? That way they could give customers a good show. But yes, TYPICALLY seventy-eight.
And then she heard the familiar moans and groans of Moaning Myrtle. Okay SERIOUSLY, they had to figure out a way to keep that ghost out of the confines of the classroom. ESPECIALLY Divination. Selina enjoyed this class and she did not want her wailing throughout her favorite lesson, thank you very much.
