be curious, not judgmental Winter had announced its presence on the Quidditch pitch; the previous night's snowfall left a fresh blanket of snow. The day's cloudy skies and below freezing temperatures did not help Professor James in the melting of the snow around the stands, but surely the patches she had missed along the way in a few sections wouldn't be a problem for the plethora of spectators. Probably.
As she stood in the center of the pitch, her broom in hand, she directed her wand toward her neck and spoke to the stands, "Welcome to the second match of the term - Slytherin versus Hufflepuff! It's going to be quite the showdown, so without further ado, let's welcome the teams to the pitch!"
The gates opened at both ends of the stadium and a blur of emerald and goldenrod ensued as the two teams took their fifteen minutes of practice. During that time, Professor James reviewed the team rosters, gave each player a mark of approval, and beamed up at the players.
It was going to be a good one.
A whistle-blow signaled the teams to take their places. James released the bludger, followed by the snitch, then enunciated clearly only to the players, "Play a clean game, play by the rules, show good sportsmanship - remember, you are role models whether you like it or not." That was the truth, really. This time, she brought her wand up to her neck and spoke, "On my whistle. Three... two... one... TWEET!"
