Why was this one classified as a hex? Hmmmm. "Is it because this particular spell causes discomfort to the person that gets stuck?" Quote:

Again, sadistic. Shudder. Quote:

No good intentions there--actually...that depends on how you look at it if you ask me. Casting that thing would be for VERY good intentions if I were to cast it." Idiots needed to be taught lessons too and she would be happy to oblige. They would be so grateful afterwards. She was SUCH a giver. "But I guess generally the castor means no good by it." Shrug. "It's classified as a hex maybe because it can hurt people it comes in contact with a bit but the harm is not as dangerous as a curse,'' he said. They had a good start with the answers. It showed they knew what a hex was and why spells would have been classified under that category, unfortunately, that wasn't going to be the case for today. No matter though, Medea was still pleased they spoke up. "Hexes do cause discomfort, you're right." She nodded to the three people who suggested so. "However, this case is a little tricky, depending on the definition of 'discomfort' to the victim. This spell doesn't exactly harm the victim, but can be uncomfortable in the sense that you are unable to move, leading to other potential disasters. It would lie more in the hands of 'negative intentions' as Miss Dawnsel and Miss Cambridge had suggested than any actual harm." Quote:

"It's not used for good or helpful reasons, as say, a permanent sticking charm would be." Maybe? Perhaps some people would use the Permanent Sticking Charm for mean reasons, but that wasn't what it had been designed for. Unlike the Stickfast Hex, which clearly HAD been designed as a spell to use on enemies.
Or in defense.
HUH. Quote:

The head boy tried to answer and raised his hand again. "It's classified as hex, because it is bad and moderately suffering but not as dangerous as curse, right? Usually hex can be used as defensive." He spoke again. Honestly, the professor wasn't expecting the reason to come into play so early in the answers, but there it was. Wonderful! "Correct, Miss Ryans." Medea nodded and smiled. "Unlike most discomfort that comes with spells such as hexes, jinxes, and curses, however small or large it is, this particular spell is considered a hex due to it's usage offensively, or defensively depending as Mister Rush said, in duels. Very good." Quote:

And, I heard it actually conjures a kind of sticky ectoplasm, kind of like what ghosts leave behind, which is another reason it wouldn't be classed as 'useful' since if you stick stuff on purpose like a poster on a wall or something, you probably don't want a sticky green goo visible around the edges. So its a conjuring spell in a way, but again doesn't really conjure anything useful in a day to day sense." West thought a little more and then summed up, "So really it couldn't be anything but a hex, because a hex is bad and has negative intent but isn't overly dangerous. " Yup she knew that he was an advocate of the Corruptia Vlakh definitions.
And exercise? He didn't mind that. West started jogging on the spot. Nothing strange about that in this class. She wouldn't have expected an answer of anything less from the Odessa's. Medea nodded slowly as he spoke, keeping in mind the points he made. "Right, it does conjure a kind of ectoplasm, not quite useful for daily routine, considering it functions merely on shoes. Additionally, it works better on some surfaces than others, so the use such a spell in any other scenario than a duel would be...well, it really is up to the person." If they wanted sticky green goo everywhere, that was up to them.
Glancing to the rest of the class, Medea continued. "Not quite the most dangerous of spells around, though can be a nuisance. As we've mentioned, it's more in the negative intent of the spell that makes it a hex than actual harmful discomfort. We will get more into this in just a second." Quote:

So this one, does its maliciousness kind of fall into that category?" MAYBE that made sense. Maybe."Or, I guess, if you knew it wasn't as bad as a curse and you were trying to guess if it was a jinx or not, you could tell that it was a hex. 'Cause, y'know, jinxes have counter-jinxes and anti-jinxes, right? Does the stickfast hex have one of those?" If it didn't, there was a good explanation right there.
And if it did.. Professor Romanos could just ignore that WHOLE answer, mmk? Quote:

Jogjogjogjogjogjogjogjog. And jinxes were more permanent than hexes, and the stickfast wasn't all that permanent. Like Alice said about counters and stuff. West looked toward the professor for a verdict. Medea smiled and nodded as Alice spoke, no matter if it was the correct answer she was looking for or not, however, the Gryffindor did have a good question at the end. One that young Mister Odessa decided to partially answer for her. "Skurge is indeed one of the spells you could use to counter the stickfast hex; possibly the most useful out of them all. With something like this, a conjuring spell, you can have a few different creative ways of removing the hex or... getting around it, for lack of better words." Quote:

"Professor is it called a hex because it does something to someone else. In this case it prevents someone from catching up with you. So it's like a spell that is not wanted by the person it's targeted at, but very much wanted by the caster." Alyssa hoped she made sense.
"It's a hex because it inhibits someone's actions but it does not necessarily have to cause harm to the person who gets hit by it, like West said." Quote:

I'm guessing the stickfast hex would be more of a nuisance...Like if someone were walking and another person put it on their feet. They'd trip and fall. That sort of thing..."
Running his fingers through his hair some more, he continued to stretch and work his back out. "Or to trap your opponent." Medea slipped that little part in, raising an eyebrow towards Alyssa. Mmhmmm, it was correct in what was being said though. "Yes, I highly doubt the target wouldn't so much want to be trapped in this spell, and it is quite a nuisance, you're right Mister Montmorency. Not really a damaging spell, but, in the right situation, can be...fatal. Not particularly caused by the actual spell itself though, technically speaking. "As an overview, the stickfast hex has been labeled a hex, not due to it's damaging results, but for it's use offensively or defensively in duels. The spell itself is actually quite harmless. However, due to showing up in duels, it has been received a new category. It's charms and conjuring natures has given it other uses of course, though the lack of cleanliness and reliability it holds, it isn't a spell often used in day to day activities." After having stretched her legs and back, the professor took off her cloak and began wrapping it up.
"In fact, it isn't all that popular in duels either, yet it's become quite an advantage for those who use it. Not many people know of it's counter spells, considering finite will not work on the conjuring nature. The hex does produce a sticky green goo, similar to something called ectoplasm, upon the bottom of your shoes, making it nearly impossible for you to escape. Ectoplasm, for all who don't know, is a type of substance left behind from ghosts and poltergeists. Gives quite a field day for the non-magic folk to find this substance lying around." However amusing it may be. "Much more powerful versions of these spells will stick your feet to the ground with your shoes, but those versions are far down the line." Placing her cloak to the side and out of the way, a small shudder ran through her. Oh dear, it was freezing in here.
"But, one counter spell has been brought up, by Mister Odessa. It's called Skurge. The spell itself is designed to remove ectoplasm, or to drive away ghosts and poltergeists. Other ways of countering this spell can be removing yourself from your shoes or using the 'Glacius' spell upon them to slowly chip away the substance, but skurge is the quickest and cleanest way to rid of it. We will be practicing these two spells in just a moment, so ready yourselves." Truly, they should ready themselves. "Miss Bishop had previously given us the incantation for the stickfast hex: Colloshoo. It's wand movement is much like an uncompleted rectangle, like so."
Raising her wand, she flicked it in a rectangle like shape in mid-air, a bright yellow light following it's trace and lingering for a moment to give a clear view of the movement. "And of course, the incantation for Skurge is just like it's name: Skurge. It's wand movement is a flick upwards of the wand with a quick twirl at the end." Below the yellow glow of the stickfast hex example, Medea flicked and twirled her wand to represent the skurge spell, a red light following it's trace and lingering much like the previous for a clear example.
"Our practice of formal dueling will come later next lesson, but today, it will be every witch and wizard for themselves. There will be no partnering. Just you, your wand, and... quite a bit of enemies." Medea grinned, glancing to the entire class, a hint of mischief behind her eyes. "Practice the incantations and the wand movements first if you so wish, however, do so quickly and keep your eyes open. You may just find yourself stuck to the ground faster than you can say 'dark arts'. If you have any questions or need help, do raise your hand. For now..."
"Let the practice begin." OOC: Every witch and wizard for themselves! xD You may RP yourself casting the spell upon anyone who posts in the lesson, however, I do request that you keep yourself from RPing the outcome of the casting. That will be up to the other RP'er if their character has been hit or not. Please do keep in mind of your character's abilities as always, and most importantly, have fun. If you have any questions, do ask! Whether it be IC, in my Vm's, PM me, or however you so wish. Questions are good.
The lesson will continue on with another spell sometime tomorrow. Keep an eye open for it! |
