She had been born to a woman who truly didn't know when to stop talking. Before she knew what she was doing, Elinor had picked up her teacup and flung it towards the opposite wall, where it broke apart and splattered the little bit of remnance of it's contents onto the wallpaper.
If the ministry worker wasn't worked into such a state, she would no doubt already be regretting her actions. However, no one can make you as angry as your mother can, and unfortunately, Elinor was proving that theory right.
"Then you can blame me! It was my foolish thought that anything good might come of today! Once again, I'm wrong, aren't I? I couldn't possibly have inherited that from you, could I? I don't even care. I'm more glad than anything to not be like you! My only regret is that I am pure-blooded-- I regret that you gave me that. It's just another disappointment to you, isn't it? You want more than anything that I would have ended up like you, more like Shelley and Clarice. Go foist those expectations off on them, and leave us well alone, then!"
It was perhaps a slip of the tongue that she had said 'us' instead of 'me', but somehow, the 'us' sounded better to her. It seemed to sound better, even if she was shouting.
