"How did you like your internship at the post office?" he asked curiously. Working with owls didn’t seem like such a bad summer job. Leo would have jumped at the chance if he had been offered it when he went to school. Picking up on another thing Ethan had mentioned he asked "So your family comes from Germany?"It was nice to get to know the student’s better than just their names, year and house.
Book donations. Awww… Eyes widening with emotion Mr Kitridge stumbled a little over the words as he shared. "The renovations are going slow but good. It’s hard to tell when the renovations will be complete but they've promised before finals at least."
Glancing down at the book bag at Ethan’s feet he murmured "Any books are welcomed with open arms. I'm sure we can use them. What kinds of books have you brought along?" Textbooks? Novels? Scrolls? Leo would take anything and everything. He couldn’t afford to be picky if he wanted to fill up the shelves again.
Ethan envisioned what a holiday in the Canary Islands might entail - sandy beaches, warm sun.. But he was soon snapped out of his reverie by the voice of Mr. Kitridge.
"Oh, yes.. I mean no.. just this year and next.." he said, still somewhat distracted thinking about the beach.
"I think that's a good idea," he added, agreeing with the man's words with a nod.
The sixth year leaned back in his seat as he conversed.
"I enjoyed it," he answered in regards to his internship.
"I mean, it was mostly cleaning up after the owls.. but I liked working with them. They all have different personalities." He vaguely wondered if he would have the opportunity to work there next year, though maybe he'd rather go Spike's route - work with plants and get paid for it. He then nodded at the librarian's next words.
"Well, my parents and I live in Heidelberg.. they're both from England, really, but they moved there before I was born."
The Ravenclaw pursed his lips slightly and nodded slowly as Mr. Kitridge discussed the details of the renovations.
"Well, if you need any help.. I have some time freed up since I'm not studying for OWLs this term." He took a deep breath before continuing.
"I lost a lot of my experimental work in the greenhouse last term too.. I sorta know what it's like to lose.. things.." Ethan trailed off as he looked down at his bag. Maybe it wasn't exactly the same, but it did cause the boy to think about and become somewhat empathetic to the library's losses.
Lugging the heavy bag onto his lap, Ethan began pulling the books out and piling them onto the floor next to him.
"Well, this one is new - my parents bought it as a donation to the library." He opened the front cover of
Magical Water Plants of the Mediterranean to show the label with his family name.
"The rest are used though, they're from home.. a few classic novels, a book on the history of wizarding Germany, a couple of my textbooks from Beauxbatons.. mythological basis in Ancient Runes and introductory Astronomy." They were both in French, but someone could use them.. maybe.
"An Appraisal of Magical Education in Europe," he read as he continued pulling the books out.
"Enchantments in Baking and this one on translating Mermish." The boy shrugged a bit. He wasn't sure if they were useful additions to the library or not, but hopeful they were of some help.
