...He just looked like a regular guy, didn't he?
"I see," he said again, subconsciously stroking one of her hands with his thumb, "brown hair, brown eyes, a plain nose... someone once told me I had 'poochy girl lips'..." Was that the kind of stuff she wanted to hear? "I'm... not a chubby little Ravenclaw anymore - that's good." Max wished he could see her reflection in the mirror, too, so he knew if he was on the right track and saying the kind of stuff she wanted to hear.
He paused, trying to think of what else might satisfy her questioning. Was she going to get mad at him? Was... there some kind of 'right' answer, or something she wanted him to say? "I'm not... completely unattractive?" There was a nice twist - he was giving a small compliment to some of his features, but he was certainly not saying he was attractive either. "And... I see... someone who is really, really lucky to have you in his life."
At that, he rested his own arms on hers around his middle, letting her know he was all out of guesses. Were those good enough answers?
Emmaleigh smiled when Max placed his hands on hers. When he said he saw her arms, “That’s not you.” she said giving his tummy a little poke. Feeling Max's thumb on the back of her hand, she snuggled against his back, feeling the vibrations of his voice as he talked. “Who ever said that must have never kissed those lips,” she said, peeking over his shoulder. “Because there very good lips.” She pressed her nose against his shoulder, with just her eyes showing. She continued to watch him carefully as he talked, and found herself frowning when he made a comment about being attractive. She sighed and tightened her arms around him. “Not as luck as I am, I assure you. And that’s not what I see when I look at you. You missed all the best things.”
Well, that hadn't really been the sort of answer she was looking for. It wasn't what he though of himself. She found his eyes in the mirror. “Max,” she said quietly, “I know I asked you this before, and you didn't answer.” As the talked, she laced her fingers with those resting on top of hers. “But what's your favorite thing about you? What do you like about you?”
