"Well," Mick started, "If I'm really sure about one thing, I'd go for it..." He paused because he was at a lost for words. We're talking about girls...I honestly wouldn't know what to do. His guess is as good as mine, he thought. A part of him wanted to wing it, but he doesn't know how to do that either. "I hear this a lot in songs, but maybe there's some truth in it. 'Follow your heart', you know? I don't know," he said, beginning to frown. "This sounds silly but I'm just as lost as you."
Ethan stared at a spot on the floor and nodded slowly, absorbing Mick's words. Follow your heart.. Had he done that? Possibly, but he wasn't sure. And there was still that part of hurting a friend.. but maybe that couldn't be helped and he'd just have to accept it and move on.
Ethan chuckled lightly and gave Mick a grateful smile at his last words.
"No.. I really appreciate the gesture.. and for having someone to talk to." And he sincerely meant that. He wasn't sure if the advice would help, but at least the boy was interested enough to listen and offer his assistance. He looked at the other boy for a moment, contemplating. He felt like he could trust him enough to give him some detail.. and maybe see what he thought after that.
"Well.. to give you some specifics.." he began,
"There is this girl who I'm friends with.. I know she'd like to be more than friends and I'd like to get to know her better myself. I had thought about asking her out.. but before I had gotten the chance to, I asked someone else out." He paused for a moment, thinking how best to continue.
"She's a friend too.. and I know she also wants to be more than friends." He'd be surprised if the whole school didn't know after she practically announced it at the last Quidditch match.. Taking a deep breath, he added,
"I really like her though.. and I guess I got caught up in the heat of the moment." He thought about how close he came to kissing her.
"I did tell her that I just wanted to see how things worked out though.. People at this school seem to like jumping into relationships." And he was not ready to be anybody's boyfriend.
"I'm just not sure if I did the right thing.. or if there is a right thing.. What do you think?" He took another glance at the boy.
"I'm just worried about one of them getting hurt.. they're both my friends, you know?"
