Something snapped him out of his daze. It could have been that girl who was standing in front of him. Or it could have been the fly that landed on his nose that he was trying desperately to use The Force to squish. Or it could have been the fact that he had to go pee.

"WHAT IF MY ARM FALLS OFF?!" he squealed. He hadn't even noticed the girl had asked him a question, but HE NEEDED TO KNOW.

As soon as he realized that he MIGHT LOSE HIS ARM, he decided that he would need to use it as much as possible before it fell off. As such, he immediately started scribbling on his notes, trying to get the blood flowing before tackling the mountain of homework he should have been doing instead of worrying about the well-being of his arm.
