Default Ponte Vecchio

The Ponte Vecchio. Literally, the Old Bridge, and it has certainly stood the test of time. A stone bridge dating all the way back to the medieval era, a stone plaque near its central arch memorializes its rebuilding in 1343 after a flood, and it even survived World War II while all other bridges were destroyed and subsequently rebuilt. The main attraction here are the shops, though the history is fascinating as well. Originally owned by butchers, the shops that line the bridge currently house all manner of little items; jewelry, art, souvenirs and quaintly, they display their wares outside on tables in front of their shops in the manner of the medieval era. Visit here to enjoy the experience, use the bridge to get from one side of the river to the other, buy a few trinkets to bring home… Just enjoy.
