Clearly the professor was too busy helping other students, so Eliza stopped trying to bother her. 
She moved on to Step Two in the instructions.
She picked up the brush and began lightly scrubbing her crab’s shell. Little particles clouded the water as she cleaned its gorgeous fuchsia and indigo colored jewels. “It’s okay,” she said in a cute voice to her crab, “We’re going to get you all shiny and new again.” She hoped the crab appreciated all of these nice bedside manners she was trying to give it. “Are you a boy or a girl?” she asked it.
She turned the crab slightly on its side, so she could brush around the rim of the shell. “I’m going to say you’re a girl crab, because of your colors and all.” She brushed a little more. “Maybe that’s a bit narrow-minded though. What do you think?” She really didn’t mind that she was talking to the crab so much. She didn’t have a partner after all, and the crab could probably use a good conversation. |
