Ethan was contemplating getting up and leaving when the professor appeared. The Ravenclaw raised an eyebrow at her appearance and chuckled lightly in bewildered amusement. This woman was bizarre.

Ethan listened as she spoke, then raised his hand. He was somewhat familiar with the topic as they had covered it a bit at Beauxbatons. "Dream divination, or Oneiromancy, is a way of foreseeing future events from your dreams." That was the gist of it, anyway.
The first student to answer was a Ravenclaw, ooh! Callie was proud, they had become her favorites since her time being at Hogwarts.

"That's correct, the technical name for Dream Divination is Oneiromancy." Not an overly indepth answer but great to get the ball rolling. The professor looked for the next hand raised.

Now Dreams, obviously this was what the lesson was about. Dream Divination. He raises his hand and offered this answer "Professor, its dream interpretation, using elements in one's dream and learning what they symbolize. Its like a way to interpret what your subconscious is trying to say to your conscious side."
"Yes, Mr. Vanderbilt, your right. The idea of dream interpretation is to pick apart the individual elements of a dream to see how they will affect your life to come." She nodded and smiled at him. He was a smart one, a good student to have in class. "I'm glad you mentioned the subconscience, but I will get to that in a minute."

She was trying to occupy herself fidgeting with her tie in order not fall asleep, when that creeeeeep voice sounded. The second-year practically jumped from her seat but landed safely. She was grateful for the darkness so no one should have noticed. OK? What's with the woman who was hiding! Talk about maturity.

Cassia sat frozen in her seat watching what the breeze did , the dust and the flame. Her eyes widening at each move Professor Elwood did with her wand. Yeah it was cool but a warning wouldn't have hurt. A jumpy second-year here!

The snake was grateful when Elwood seemed to have finished whatever tricks she had been preparing. Though she braced herself for any other upcoming tricks in store. Then the woman started to talk. Happy to see familiar faces? Well, it seemed that she wanted to give heart attack to some students in order to minimize the number of students, no?

Dreams. They were going to sleep? Well, Cassia would forget about the heart attack Elwood almost caused her if they went to sleep in the lesson for whatever academic reason. Though not now apparently.

The slytherin paused considering the question before raising her hand, swallowing the lump cause by the mini-heart attack she just suffered from ,she spoke, "Dream Divination is when you dream about something happening and then something that resembles it happens for real. "She said hesitatingly because she wasn't sure about it but she could give it a try and have a nap right now. No problem.
The girl was obviously effected by her entrance and that thoroughly sparked excitment in the blonde Divination professor. "Good job Miss Somerlad, you're on the right track." The little snake seemed like she was almost there just not letting her mind explore all the possibilities.

Gideon didn't get to hear an answer as suddenly a loud voice rang out and it took him few moments to realise it was Professor Elwood's own amplified as she spoke.

Cue dramatic entrance.

Sure enough after her words and a few dramatic actions...like the pink dust that was now everywhere...the woman showed herself from behind the chair in the front of the room. How had they missed that? Whatever...the first question had been posed at the end of the brief introduction about dreams and Gideon raised his hand to answer as he briefly wondered where Selina was off to.

"Its the interpretation of the symbols and events that occur within our dreams in an attempt to predict what it might mean to the course of future happenings." A least in his thoughts, the mention of its supposed name had been lost on him until he heard it from another student.
"Good, good Prefect Gert. Dream Divination is just that." Callie was glad so many of them had heard of the subject. It just meant she didn't have to carry them the whole time.

Then Sarah remembered that the information she gave over had NOTHING to with knowlege about Divinition, just dream interpreting. Sarah had read up some things about dreams.
Callie listened as the young Lion talked about her idea of dream divination, nodding the whole time. "Very good, although just because somehting has to do with what has happened to you in the previous days doesn't mean you can completely rule it out as being prophetic, you could be experiencing a premonition of something that will happen in result of whatever action you already performed. Don't rule anything out just yet." Elwood said with a smile.

Another Prefect. It was good to see that they were setting a good example for their classmates by attending the best class even the non-required classes.

"Yes good job. We can't just look at a dream as a random firing off of neutrons in the brain, they can actually mean something." She just needed to make sure all of the other students got that point.

Anyways the crazy lady was asking a question. "Professor in your sleep you could dream about something that could be giving you clues about something that may happen in the future." Hannah herself did not believe in this nonsense because if that were the case then she would go to sleep tonight and dream about a world where puffers didn't exist!!!
Excellent!

"Yes good. Our minds can use dreams to potentially warn us of something that will happen in the near future. The trouble is we don't always remember all of our dreams." That made things tricky. They were doing well so far.

Despite Elijah's reservations about the class, he rather had enjoyed her display of sparkles and fire (although, the voice was a little unsettling)! Unfortunately Elijah could imagine that this was as exciting as the class was likely ever to get...

Oh look! There she is! Behind the chair. How clever. Spooky cow, with her creepy voice. With her now present, the lesson could begin and Elijah could sleep (it was dark enough to hide him, right?)... They were supposed to be studying dreams, after all. Well how best to do that than to....

ZZZZZzzZZzZzzZZZzZZz
Professor Elwood didn't see a hand raised from the boy dressed in Hufflepuff robes sitting near the back but she did recognize who he was even in the poorly lit room. Elijah Wilde, the loose cannon of last term, had decided to continue in the Noble Art for another term after his reckless actions last spring. She eyed him more a moment and then turned to the other students answering her question.

She would deal with him in a minute.

Nigel closed his eyes right when she was talking about fairies and dragons.

Well since this lesson is about dreaming. He thought it would be alright to go to sleep. He might even dream about dragons. It was way to hot in here and Professor Elwood's voice was not that loud anymore. Nigel fell asleep dreaming about faires and dragons.
Another dozer?!

The room seemed to be doing it's job. Callie couldn't believe that someone could fall asleep during a lecture about such a fascinating subject as Dream Divination but under the room's conditions she could see even stranger things happening.

He would be dealt with in one swoop alongside Elijah.

"They do come from out SUBconscious." She corrected the girl gently and nodded along. "And they inform us of things that we don't pick up when we are conscious." Callie understood what the girl meant despite her wording misshaps.

The third year literally JUMPED out of her seat when suddenly a BOOMING voice sounded throughout the room. She regained her composure and listened, eyes a bit wider than before, as talk about dreams continued. The pink dust was a really nice touch though Ella could have done without the fire, only because it was already nearly a thousand degrees in here. Dramatic.

Ella smiled, eyebrows raised, as Professor Elwood them emerged from behind the chair. Heh. She'd seriously gotten Ella, the badger had definitely been freaked out!

Dream Divination? Ella didn't know too much about the technical side of it but she did understand the purpose of it. "Professor, I believe dream divination has to do with interpreting one's dreams."
A very basic answer, but good all the same.

"Yes dear, that is a good start." Professor Elwood nodded at her and moved on to the next student.

He waited for the class to begin and end as quickly as possible. It wasn't that he didn't want to learn but, well , the obvious candles in the room just made him feel uncomfortable.

The Slytherin jumped when the candles suddenly blew out and he let out a laugh, an actual laugh of relief. No fire~! yaaaay! And then a voice came which he knew was the Professor and he even giggled at her words. Crazy lady hehe. And the pink twinkling dust was soooo cute~! He wanted to have that...can he? can he?

But his smile and laugh turned upside down again when a HUGE flame shot up from behind the chair where the voice was coming from and the Slytherin fell off his chair. Lying on the ground, Daichi stared up at the flames that traveled to the wall and he...

Cried. Not like a baby but his eyes began to feel watery and he shuffled on his behind to the ladder. He needed to get out of here, this was too dangerous! His hands found the hatch as he pushed it open when the flame vanished.

Daichi blinked his eyes as his heart was still pounding loudly. Was it over? With shaking hands, he let go of the hatch and it closed shut was a loud bang. He was still sitting near the entrance to the tower though when the Professor asked the first question and his cheeks began to blush.

Dreams? WHATHADFIREHADTODOWITHDREAMS?! "D-dream divination is..wanting to get out of here...can i?" please?
What in Merlin's shined Crystal Ball?!

Callie had been ready to start the class after her spectacular introduction and had not expected Mr. Katharos to get up and frantically leave the room. "Mr. Katharos I am not finished with my lesson. Why do you need to leave, did you see a mouse? It is important for you to tell me if you actually saw a mouse!" Professor Elwood would NOT continue class if there was a mouse in the room but she wouldn't let them know that unless that was actually the case.

She could handle anything but mice. Ew.

Professor Elwood kindly walked over to the boy and pointed him back to his seat, assuring him that if there was a mouse he could leave.

Theo jumped out of his skin, but did rather appreciate that big introduction. Wheeeheh, the professors were all being pretty awesome this term. Dreams. Theo always had the best dreams, but he hated waking up in the morning. Linking them to Divination, though? Ehhhhh, there was only one thing that stuck in his mind.

"Is it something to do with.... deja vu?" Deja vu was pretty self explanatory, wasn't it?
"Ooooh an interesting point Mister Kinsley. Deja vu is an excellent suggestion. Deja vu oftentimes is the result of an action becoming true that once presented itself in your dream but you just don't really percieve it that way because you don't fully remember your dream." Pretty much deja vu was a very real thing.

Calista loved when younger students attended her lesson because they always had a fresh look at things.

Elektra then sat back and chuckled to herself. Oh, yeah...she just recited words to a song called 'Sweet Dreams.'
"Ummm...I'm not entirely sure what you mean but okay." Professor Elwood looked at the Ravenclaw again tyrin gto further decipher the girl but just assumed she knew what she meant so who was she to question others' dogmas.

Whatever floats your boat.

She cleared her throat, trying to make it seem as if she hadn't been bothered at all. "Well, I do that it's a way for our future to come to us in our dreams," she said. "Sometimes we may dream what we think are silly dreams, but they're really hidden messages about our future. We just have to interpret them first."
"Yes, Miss Greingoth, you are correct. We always need to keep in mind that no matter how silly a dream may seem it may have real meaning behind it." The Prefect was being so cooperative, Callie didn't detect the tone that some of her collegues mentioned when talking about the girl.

Dream Divination. She remembered keeping dream journals her...first year was it? Dreams that had shown her one thing and the opposite had happened in reality. SEE!? This subject was so flawed and dkfldfsljsjsl.

Sitting up straight and putting her book down, Kurumi DID raise her hand to answer. "Some say that it is the most important means of divining the future."
"You could say that. Everyone has their own opinions on what type of Divination is better or more important than others." Elwood has expected more from Kurumi but perhaps she was just having an offday? The Divination Professor nodded at her and went on to the next student.

Maybe the girl was trying to cram all of the information in now and didn't read the textbook over the summer? Didn't seem like her.

Dream Divination? Wasn't that when people spotted 'symbols' in their dreams and 'interpreted' to mean certain things? Like dreaming of a tornado meant you were going to be hit with a sudden windfall- of money? Em had always thought it was a bunch of bull. Like, really, how could one predict something in their dreams when they couldn't while they were awake? Since dreams were just a part of a person's subconscious and all.

She just crossed her arms and gave the professor an 'I'm-not-convinced' look.
This girl seemed very impressed by Professor Elwood's demonstration and she grinned brightly as she saw the girl save some of the pink fairy dust. How cute!

But instead of answering and being a good little Divination student she crossed her arms and said nothing. Well FIIIINE.

They were something you couldn’t manipulate to your own agenda. They just… happened, and sometimes you were lucky enough to remember them. Well, in her case, most of the time.

She admired the sparkles and fireballs and thought the professor must’ve really enjoyed theatrics. I wonder if there’s a theatre club at Hogwarts… Just then a figure jumped out at the front of the room, blonde hair flying from the momentum. “Jeepers!” she cried out. Seeing it was only the professor, Eliza relaxed again. Or rather, tried to relax. Is it always this hot in here? she wondered. She was beginning to think the reason for the heat was to cause hallucinations -- from heat stroke.

This being the first year's one and only Divination lesson, she didn’t know much about dream Divination. She raised her hand and made her best guess. “I’m assuming it has to do with trying to interpret our dreams? Sometimes they must just be silly nothingness, but other times they could be trying to tell us something.”

She pulled at the neck of her sweater. Merlin! I know it’s a chilly autumn, but this heating is overkill. She twister her pale auburn hair to the side, hoping to cool her neck some. Wait... she thought, Can Professor Elwood read my mind? She hoped not. She wasn't always as pure of thought as she was of tongue. I guess if I hear her in my head, I'll have my answer. ...Er, well if she can read minds and talk to them that is.

"Very good!" Callie's eyes twinkled a bit as she looked at the little Ravenclaw who seemed to be battling with herself in her head, probably about her answer. Those Ravenclaws were always trying to do their best at everything academic.

"Dreams are the way our subconscious talks to us and it is important that we do our best to listen. Good point, thank you." She would keep her eye on this newcomer; a new student mind to mold.

Divination and dreams! That was Louisa's first Divination lesson, very touching. Jasmine couldn't help but scoff a little at the notion of it. None the less she raised her hand and replied with both an answer and a question, "Dream Divination would seem to be an interpretation of one's dreams by associating preconceived symbolic references that pertain to whatever was dreamt about. However, Professor, are not all dreams subjective? For instance, if one were to dream about rain, one could say it is a symbol of fertility and that the person will soon be with child, or one could say the rain is a symbol of cleansing and soon their troubles will cease, or one could even say rain is a symbol of a bad omen and that they will soon meet their doom. There are so many interpretations how would one know which is correct and thus be able to divine a singular outcome?"
Callie looked at the Lion as she talked and nodded slowly as she got to the point of distrusting the practice, it was natural for those who were not fully immersed in the Noble Art to feel this way sometimes. "Good on the first point but I want to bring somethingto your attention about your doubt towards the end of your answer. Are not oppinons and multiple interpretations present in many subjects such as literature, philosophy and some historical events? The way we sift through the random and often times untrue interpretations is that we trust in professionals of the subject, the writers of your textbook, to inform us of the correct and most widely approved symbol interpretations, make sense?" So it wasn't all just guess work. She wanted to make sure that the whole class got that.

Now, what does the future have for Dianna? Children.
"Very good, we use dreams in order to divine the future." Callie nodded and prepared to move the lesson on and to take care of those who were sleeping.

Professor Elwood done her best to reflect and work on each of the student's who spoke up's answer and when she was done with it she stood and walked towards Elijah's and Nigel's desks and pointed her wand at them, sending a stream of cold water to spray them both awake. "Now Mr. Wilde and Mr. Barrington, just because we are talking about things that happen when you are asleep does not mean that I want you to go to sleep during my lesson or to be rude and ignore your classmates as they speak. Disrupt my class again and you will have a points loss and perhaps detention." Yes she knew she made the disruption but she was the boss-lady.

"Alright, great answers everyone. It's clear that the majority of you all understand the basics of Oneiromancy which means you all either pay attention when your past professors rambled on about other forms of the subject or you have read ahead in your textbooks which, either way makes me proud of you all, good job." She crossed one leg over the other as she sat in her chair and thought for a moment where she was going to go next.

Oh, some things the students mentioned themselves. "Mr. Vanderbilt mentioned the idea of the subconscience in his answer which is where I want to start. Scientifically we know that dreams happen when the mind enters the REM cycle. Does anyone know what that is, what REM stands for, and can explain breifly what we know about it?" She wondered if she expected them to get that technical but they nest learn upfront that the subject was not all smoke and mirrors.
