Nothing seemed to be soft or cracked on the creature's shell , so Gideon let the firecrab soak in the water for a few moments. If the notes said it was useful to loosen stuff up off the shell, then he was going to take the hint and do so. When it was long enough in his opinion, he then took up the brush that he had retrieved earlier from the offered supplies and began lightly scrubbing the firecrab. Circular motion upon circular motion, first clockwise and then counter clockwise to stir things up after one round of gentle scrubbing.
Satisfied with the overall cleaning, the prefect switched to spot cleaning. Gideon focused more around around the edges of the jewels. He then gingerly rolled the firecrab over to attempt to get the underside as well. However the creature seemed not to like it all that much so the seventh year quickly abandoned it and righted the crab. He then froze to see what type of if any further reaction he would get, the Gryffindor letting out a sigh of relief when nothing came and he was still dry and not burnt.
That was close.
