"I missed you more, I bet," he guessed, finally releasing her to give her a teasing smile, letting his hand drift on her waist for a moment because she was THERE. RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM.
He probably DID miss her more, though. Even though he was dealing with her departure better than anticipated - thanks to people like Emmaleigh and Louisa - it still didn't FEEL right to be at Hogwarts without Ellie.
"You get here okay?"
Ellie wouldn't say it out loud, but
truthfully, Max probably
did miss her more than she missed him. Just like she was positive she missed Treyen more last year than he missed her. Because she was now in the outside world. She had everything she wanted in life, besides her bestfriend, and anything she could possibly want, at her disposal. While he was trapped in a horrid old castle with horrid teachers and horrid classmates and horrid assignments and tests.
But she wouldn't say it out loud. So Max just got hugged tighter and a kiss on the cheek.
To answer his question, Ellie ran her tongue around her mouth, feeling her teeth, reached back at her hair, and wiggled her fingers, and still attached nails, at his face. Those were the things that gave her trouble in her apparition lessons.
"Didn't splinch!" So, yes, she got here perfectly fine.
