Vindictus watched as the students selected their brooms and stood next to them. Once the path he created between the two broomstick rows was clear, he began his customary pacing down the aisle.
"Good. Good," he said and stopped directly in front of a certain Ravenclaw. "You selected a reliable broom, Vivi. Good job." He gave her a smile and resumed his pacing.
"Place your left hand over the broom and in a firm, steady voice, say 'Up!'." Vindictus knew that some students would have some difficulty with the most basic task. "Remember that you're in charge and not the broom - make sure you let it know that you're the boss! Once the broom handle hits your open palm, grasp it tightly."
Vickers took a quick glance at the Professor and nodded his head silently. Right school brooms being what they are and all that.... He hovered his hand over the broom to his left and uttered a simple
"Up." He
expected it to simply rise and float to his hand....
It didnt move an inch.
He let out a measured breath as his lips drew a be-patient-with-this line, hunching himself lower as if that would improve his chances
"Up." he uttered again. Did the broom move this time? Maybe it nudged the blade of grass nestled against it
"Uuuup...." he drawled again. The shaft end started to move closer to his hand before it plopped unceremoniously back onto the grass.
He straightened up, eyed the Professor then eyed the broom a fwe times. Be the boss and all that-- right. He was giving it a command, wasnt it sensing that. Does it always want to be yelled at? Hand over the broom again, and with a glare and a merciless hiss he uttered
"UP!"
The broom seem to shake a bit in the grass then floated slowly before zipping up the last few inches into his palm-- and gave him a splinter.
"Ouch..."
Well at least he got the broom in his hand now innit? Whoever used this last must've been a Slytherin...
