Especially now that she knew about just how fond he was of Lewis' cat Vanilla.
Hopefully all the kittens were doing well.
"Oh gosh, I'm sorry Gwen. I didn't mean to be so...depressed..." Kurumi mumbled as she tugged on her tank top idly and gave Walnut a good scratch behind the ears. "I've just been doing a lot of reflecting. Trying to figure out how not to waste time..." She offered the Ravenclaw a brave but genuine smile. "I want to make this last one the best it can be."
Which meant she needed to STOP being so down on herself for certain things. Those that cared for her, especially Treyen and Lewis, had told her she was bloody mad for thinking herself a failure...but it was hard for Kurumi not to think so right now. Which was why she was going to speak to Professor Bentley as soon as she could.
"Summer was good, one of the better ones I've had in a while," she nodded. Kurumi decided to leave out the bit about her mother's one year funeral rites. It was something that was not just immensely private, but also something that would simply add to the somber mood and that needed to be fixed. "Treyen came to visit for a bit and then I spent the second half of the summer staying with Lewis in Nebraska." The color in her cheeks rose noticeably at the mention of Lewis' name - as always. "How about you?"
Jinx seemed pleased to be back, this making Gwen think that the black furball managed to do something while wandering around the train corridor. Chased a frog? Ate someone’s shoelaces? Gwendolyn narrowed her eyes suspiciously for a moment, eyeing the cat. Naah. He probably hadn’t caused any damage.
Probably… After raising her eyes from Jinx, the fifth year drew her attention back to Walnut. Heh. Walnut looked so… fluffy. Such a cute cat.
Then Kurumi spoke up, making Gwen look back at the Gryffindor Prefect.
‘You don’t need to apologize’, she told the other girl, really meaning it. She was indeed wondering if Kurumi managed to figure out how to use time wisely. And what she said next made Gwen grin.
‘I see’, she said simply. Kurumi always seemed to be the kind of person who wouldn’t just waste precious time but ehhh. It was understandable that the seventh year wanted to have the best time this last term at Hogwarts.
Moving on…
Summer.
‘Nebraska, that sounds interesting’, she said, failing to notice the colour change of Kurumi’s checks. She looked out the window for a moment, trying to figure out how long it would take to get to Hogwarts.
‘Hmm?’, she mused, after hearing Kurumi say something.
‘I’ve spent the first part of the holiday in France’ To visit Ari and convince her to come back to Hogwarts. After a whole year her bestie spent at Beauxbatons, Gwen knew she couldn’t handle not seeing Ariadne for so long again. Thankfully, things got better and the Gryffindor was back. Back for good.
‘And then umm… I’ve been trying to meet my friends over the summer. I always find it hard to catch up with everyone at the beginning of a new term’ Catching up with everyone at the feast was just not working for her.
