It hadn't even crossed his mind yet - he was just thinking about the fact that it was his last train ride to Hogwarts ever.
The last one. The LAST.
There was an odd mix of feelings in the pit of Max's stomach - excitement and elation to return to his favorite place in the world, but also dread that this was the last.
It appeared as though one of his classmates had more feelings of the latter, Max thought, as he noticed what appeared to be Louisa camped out by a large pillar. He knew it was her, though - they had been classmates long enough for Max to recognize her silhouette from a mile away. She looked... a bit on-edge, from what he could see of her face, and the obvious gesture of trying to hide in her hoodie. That was a big clue.
He walked in her direction, his single trunk lugged behind him. "Louisa," he said, half as a greeting and half as the beginning of a concerned statement. He shot a glance at her wand as he set his trunk down next to hers and plopped down on it, his hands on his knees, now looking at her with furrowed eyebrows. "Are you all right? Nerves?" He wanted to follow up that inquiry with a pout of 'I understand - IT'S OUR LAST TERM!' but he thought better of it. No need to make the situation worse.
It was lucky for the boy that Louisa was already looking to her right when he made his way toward her. If she hadn't seen him, he would've been hanging by the ankle in the air by now as a reflexive reaction to his greeting. Was that even a greeting? 'Louisa'? Maybe an acknowledgement. She watched him set his trunk down next to her, he didn't have an owl cage or a cat basket... did he have a rat? Her eyes hanged on the collar of his shirt expecting a small rodent head to poke out at any moment. Maybe a pygmy puff like Selena, or simply a reptile like their previous yearbook editor? She never saw one in the common room other than that rude boy's so probably not a reptile.
That trailing-off-from-topic thing? That became one of the Ravenclaw's characteristics these past two weeks. It took her a moment to blink, swallow and nod in reply to her fellow eagle, "
Yeah. It's the end of the journey, you know.." she tried to smile at him but when that failed, she quickly looked forward. "
I thought it'd be a happy occasion when I imagined this moment of us being the oldest students in school." Her hands kept toying with her wand as she went on, "
We would tell them fake scary tales about the Giant Squid, playfully tweak stuff about the Sorting hat, and fun stuff like that." She actually had her version of the Sorting ceremony ready for any firstie that would bump into her, this is how ready Louisa Carter was to be happy this year.
Clearing her throat and looking sideways at him she nodded at his single trunk, "
You don't have a pet?" Six freaking years and she never noticed what his pet was. This year, she was going to catch up to whatever she missed up on with the others, because you never know when you los-- NO.
Moving on from dismal ideas. "
A cat? An owl?" The pet talk suddenly seemed very important.
