Food was a good substitute best friend. He would have to embrace that replacement next term.
Thank Merlin Max came along. Although he was looking less than happy. Which made absolutely no sense to Ellie. Tonight was a happy night! Her last! She got to LEAVE finally! And never return!
"Smile, would you?" she said, giving her best friend a nudge to his side. SHE was certainly smiling.

He spotted her quite easily. The Hufflepuff poked her in the shoulder. "Congratulation on winning the Quidditch Cup, Ellie." He knew its kinda late but its better be late than never right. He opened his mouth to speak but nothing come out. He didn't want to say goodbye to her. She is his first Quidditch friend, Messer didn't want her to go.

A smile that faltered when she felt a poke, only to return when she saw who it was. And the smile grew when he spoke.
"Thanks, Messer!" It really was a brilliant way to leave such a horrid place, wasn't it? To be the BEST in the only good thing Hogwarts had to offer? Yes, yes it was.
But then Messer got all...somber-ish.
"I do!" she answered, in the same happy tone. Maybe it would be contagious.
