Probably because it took them more brain power or something....*snicker*
But then, at Sophie's words, Elliot's eyes widened, and her whole face chanced. I'm sorry. Elliot herself wasnt good at apologies. But...she appreciated Soapy's apology. Because it had deeply unsettled the girl...and she could see that Soapy meant it. Truly meant it. It didn't make them like each other, it didn't make Elliot dislike her less....but it made it okay, for just a moment. "It's fine. Really, Soapy," she manned to croak out. But she really couldn't be here anymore. She suddenly felt sick...and very, very confused.
But then she rolled her eyes. Her voice was still quiet when she spoke,"Yes, yes, you're right...whatever. But I'm having a lousy day..." she defended herself, sounding like she had a sever head cold. She took another step back, glancing over her shoulder....she wanted to like, run away or something. Her confusion was making her head pound.. Clearly Elliot was surprised by Sophie's apology. The girl probably didn't get that a lot... and probably didn't say that too often either. Sophie waited while the Ravenclaw seemed to let the words sink in.
Ignoring the 'Soapy' bit, the second year just watched Elliot for a while. Sophie had never thought anything could hurt her rival so much. If she was a mean person, she would make a mental note and be sure to use this whenever she wanted to bother the blonde, but the Hufflepuff was nothing like that. She was actually making a mental note to never bring up the topic again.
The fact that Elliot admitted Sophie was right made the brunette blink. This whole sad-Elliot thing was starting to freak her out as well. She didn't like it one bit... when the eagle looked over her shoulder, as if wanting to run away, Sophie pocketed her wand. "You know, let's just go to our Common Rooms." It didn't seem like any of them wanted to continue the silly conversation anyway. She started to walk slowly in Elliot's direction. Not really Elliot's direction, but her Common Room's direction. Elliot just happened to be in the way right now.
After she was a few steps away from the Ravenclaw, Sophie turned around and scratched her head. "Well um... happy birthday." She said awkwardly, dropping her hand to her side. She turned her back at Elliot again and disappeared down the corridor.
