But then he started to LAUGH. LAUGH! About Professor Elwood! An incredulous look crosses the Ravenclaw's features as he turned to Elijah again and shoulders him to shut up. Dude no mocking of the crushes no fair.

So they moved into the forest and at this point Vickers was inching his way closer to where the Professor led the way. Then he hears Elijah whisper the question. He stops dead in his tracks, not really thinking if Elijah would slam into him then gives him with another incredulous look. Why? he mouths in silence, then slides his gaze a few times between the Professor walking further away and back at the Curly!Puff "What you need glasses?" he murmurs, giving the Hufflepuff that LOOK--She's HOT. What do you mean why?

Just as they were moving on in relatively peaceful, although slightly nerve-wracking silence, Elijah started whispering again. Vickers resisted to roll his eyes-- at this rate they will have the entire Acromantula colony on their tail. But then he said something about girl codes and big bad guy penalties. He gives a stiff nod and mouths Ok. Yeah he didnt know about them girl codes given that he's never had a girl.

Then he stops again, this time allowing Elijah to walk past as he kept talking. Deadpan stare comes from Vickers and for a quarter of a split second wanted the curse the Hufflepuff on the spot. Kurumi having the hots for Curly!Puff? Is that why she didnt like him-- he was wearing blue robes instead of yellow? His face turned sour as he trudged on and overtook Elijah, muttering under his breath as he passed him "Dream on man." Yeah he can dream on about Kurumi falling for him the same way he dreams on for a date with the Elwood. Meaning= it will NEVER happen.

Right, theres a clearing up ahead. He didnt think he'd be so relieved to see a destination.

The first student to speak up was little Indiana Hutchinson, the small Claw that had unfortunately been on the back of Miss Fanster, the daredevil Slytheirn Quidditch Captain, as she JUMPED out of a crashed wagon in a tree. Hopefully the girl had stayed away from the Slytherin since then.

Callie's head turned sharply as the girl mentioned centuars and the possibility that they would be studying their 'Divination'. "Absolutely not. I figured you all got enough of that nonsense when the horse creature taught last term." The mention of her predecessor had obviously struck a nerve with the Professor but hopefully the girl didn't take offense.

"Yes, IT did. But we won't be worrying about them this lesson." Thankfully. The beasts were pretty stuck up with it came to Divination, believing to no end that their form of Divination was the only right kind.

A rather vague answer but slightly right.

Callie turned to the Snake and nodded slowly. "That's partially correct. The type of Divination we will be studying today does involve something related to nature." They WERE in a forest after all.

Callie hadn't seen Selina in the group of students before but smiled brightly when she heard the Gryffindor pipe up with an answer to her question.

"Both good guess but neither are fully correct, your second guess is definately on the right track though, good job Miss Skylar." Elwood nodded and turned to the next child.

The Puff who spoke about practicing Divination by use of the sky had seemed eager enough but just wasn't on her game this afternoon it seemed. "No, sorry that isn't where we are going today. If you've noticed," Callie pointed a manicured nail at the canopy above, "we are pretty deep in the forest, making it hard to really see the sky much apart from a brief glance here and there."

Good try little Puff.

"Good guess, but sadly not what is on the agenda for today's lesson." She would have to research that later though, it sounded pretty interesting. Ella had been one of the ones she had seen a frightened look appear on her face once they entered the forest but she seemed better now, which was good.

"Not quite Miss Potter, good guess though." There were certainly plenty of birds and little animals in the forest and it was not that random of an answer given their location. Very practical, these Puffs.

Kurumi had seemed to perk up since they had entered the shade of the trees. Perhaps she had just had the sun in her eyes or it was the feel of being back in the learning game that had her mood righting itself now?

"Pretty close Prefect Hollingberry. You are on the right track when you mentioned branches." And she left it at that as she answered the other raised hands.

"Close but not what I was looking for." They would be dealing with, once living/sort of living things but not in the sense the young Gryffindor was thinking. "But very good to bring up the fact that Divination and Herbology can mix like many other subjects."

Another close poke at the real subject of their studies for the day.

"Not quite. What we are doing today could sort of fall under the higher title of botomancy but it is a much more centralized study than that." Good try.

"Not quite dear, if you notice we don't have that great of a view at the moment." She said pointing at the trees above.

As she had been commenting each students' response to her previous question, Calista noticed that they all seemed to be calming down a bit since their walk to the clearing. The sounds of the forest had seemed to die down now from their place in the clearing and she was pretty much calmed herself until someone had to go and ruin that...

GULP.

O________O

"A-acromatulas?" Callie stammed slightly as the Ravenclaw mentioned the name of by far the most HIDEOUSLY-HORRIBLE beasts in the entire Wizarding World. She could care less about Thestrals, but there were bloody giant spiders in this forest? Why hadn't Willy or Waylon mentioned that tiny tidbit?! She would be having a word with them about that.

Back to curious child and probably the other students who's attention was probably prickled by the mention of creatures like that. Yeah. "No, we will hopefully not encounter any of those in today's lesson but please if you think you see one of those..." she paused and shut her eyes for a moment to avoid shivering. "inform me immediately and we will get out of here. Got it." She gave him and then the rest a nod that sent her blonde hair tubling back over her shoulders and then she winked at him to try and cover up her fear.

Yeah she was good now.

SPOILER!!: VanderWilde (This is in response to everything so minor time editting)

"Yes Mister Wilde?" Callie had said as they were walking towards the clearing. Had he seen something?!

Oh he was back to talking with Vickers. Things seemed fine. Callie watched the boys out of the corner of her eye as she proceded with the lesson and then noticed they went back to talking after they each answered. At least they had done that. "Boys, please keep your attention on me." She said looking at the Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff, her eyebrows raised.

-----------------

No one had guessed correctly but some were close--that counted for something right. Obviously this wasn't a failure on her part but merely showed that their previous Professors in the subject hadn't explored many out-of-the-box sectors of the subject. Oh well.

"Since we won't be able to look at and enjoy the cloud shapes like some of you did before we entered the forest I think we could do what I had planned for today which, like some of you have sort of touched on, involves something we can take from the forest." She lifted a hand and made a sweeping motion around at the trees making the perimeter of their lovely little clearing.

Professor Elwood pulled from behind her a stick no longer than a wand and about the same girth, the one she had purposefully sat near in order to answer this question the way she wanted. "Today we are going to study Divination by Ogham Staves. Would anyone like to venture a guess as to what those could be?" She twirled the stick in her fingers, waiting for an answer.

Anyone?

Dream on man? Exxxcccuseee me? What on Earth was that supposed to mean? Did Vickers seriously think that Elijah didn't stand a chance with Kurumi? Elijah was starting to think that Vickers' glasses must be SERIOUSLY broken if he hadn't taken the time just to have a look at his face and how GORGEOUS it was. No girl turned this down. Nu-uh. But there had been a bit of tension and hostility behind the words as well? Was their something deeper going on here? Elijah had been about to question him on it when the Professor had decided that NOW, during class, was an appropriate time to TEACH. GUH. Oh, but wait... she was... speaking to him?

He flashed her his best smile as back up and said, "Apologies, Professor Elwood, Vickers had just been telling me some interesting facts and I was just telling him... ya know... that PROFESSOR ELWOOD... that's you, right? haha... well, I was saying how she.. you... the Professor... probably knew all that Divinationy stuff. Is. All. Yep."

What. On. Earth.

Either way, the lesson continued onward and Elijah felt as if he had pretty successfully got himself out of that scenario. OooooooOoOo yeahhhhh.

Right there was another question...

Ogham Staves... that does sound familiar but why?...

Oh! Up goes the hand "Its Divination using certain types of sticks-- I mean wood Professor... something like a combination of Runes casting and wandlore where the type of wood represents something." He wasnt saure if he got that right, but it stuck out for him when he was doing some reading for Runes classes.

"That is the jist of it yes, and symbols will be used to represent each stick." Pretty standard actually but good guess for such a remote subject. Callie nodded at the Hufflepuff before moving on.

"Precisely Mr. Vanderbilt! Good job!" Callie smiled brightly at the Ravenclaw sitting in the back with the troublesome Puff boy. He should be at the front of the class giving answers like that.

Good show!

"Yes, that's on the right track. Good." Professor Elwood nodded to the Hufflepuff and moved onto the next kid, still twirling her stick in between her fingers.

"It is Celtic, good answer. Although some forms may use the bark of the trees we are going to be using sticks of their wood today." The Gryffindor was definately thinking right.

Hmmm...something to do with trees?

"Yes dear, there will be heavy tree usage today." She giggled slightly and then moved on.

"Yes, very good." The girl, despite her age, was pretty knowledgable of the subject it seemed telling both the basic definition of the subject, apart from the group of people who used it but that would be discussed in a minute.

"Very good on both accounts. The Staves do act sort of as a Divinational Rune which will be represented by different types of wood acquired by the caster." The Ravenclaw was on it, certainly making Rowena Ravenclaw proud.

Spike nodded. "Yep, awesome giant spiders," he said with a innocent grin and bounce of his curls, made oblivious to the woman's discomfort by his own exuberance. "There was meant to be a whole colony in the forest at one point." If there was one thing Spike knew about, it was critters. Especially ones of the giant eight-legged variety. He looked around the clearing almost longingly. What was the point of being in the forest if you never got to see any of the awesome creatures? They could have looked at branches of trees just on the grounds.

Cue pout and arms folded across his chest. Divination had gone down another notch in Spike Hutchinson's eyes.

And no, the wink didn't get him on side.

He looked at the stick, almost in disgust. "Bits of dead wood?" he suggested. Honestly, he was clueless. "Age rings?" He was going to suggest 'randomly shaped twigs' but thought that might be going a little too far, seeing as he was a Prefect.

...it was probably true though.

O____O

This boy seriously needed to stop. A whole colony?

Callie looked at him as he continued on excitedly about the spiders but then raised a hand to quiet him. "Prefect Hutchinson, please cease the talk of Acromantulas, you're...frightening the first years." Callie looked around. Yeah, there was probably one afraid somewhere not to mention herself.

And then his answers. "Not quite but good."

"They are. The Celtic people were the first to use Ogham Staves." Professor Elwood nodded as she answered the girl's question.

O__o

Ummm....golf?

"I'm sorry dear but golf is not in the slightest what we are doing today. Good imagination though." That was strange but the girl was young. heh.

"There is probably a type of reading done that way," and it seemed pretty similar to their Lithomancy lesson, "but we won't be doing it that way in today's lesson. Good suggestion though." Callie nodded with a smile in the Puff's direction.

"There are twenty differnt sticks. And yes they all do have symbols carved on them." Callie was happy to see that a few of them had at least a small knowledge of the subject they would be covering today.

"Okay guys, attention over here please." Callie had noticed a few of the students' glances had begun to sway to the line of trees around their clearing due to some more noises but nothing sounded bad, so they would press on.

Right, Ogham Staves. "Like a few of you all said, Ogham Staves are used in a form of Divination performed by the ancient Celtic diviners in which sticks and bits of wood are taken from the different types and breeds of trees that have been documented as important by the Celtic religions." She raised her stick and placed a finger at the end. "This, is where the Celtic Alphabet symbol is carved on the stick that is ideally taken from the corrisonding tree. That is, that the symbol and tree match correctly on each stick." If it was hard to understand now she promised it would make sense soon enough.

"Firstly lets try and remember or guess which types of trees would be used in this Ogham reading. Remember what Mister Vanderbilt said, Wandlore also uses the same type of trees for wood that would be in some of your all's wands. Use that to help you." The Professor readjusted her skirt and waited for answers.

"Just one type of wood per person please." She didn't want one person to hog all of them.

Elijah could actually physically FEEL the stare Vickers was giving him as a result of the Professor having overheard Elijah scream her name. He responded with a small shrug off his shoulders and a nervous smile as if to say 'hey, it could've gone a whole lot worse'.

He had intended to ask him about his previous hostility in response to him winning over Kurumi when the Professor decided to ask ANOTHER question. Man, did she everrrr stop talking? Was she NEVER tired of teaching? Time and place, Elwood. Time and place.

He listened on as his fellow students gave their answers, including Vickers, to which Professor Elwood gave him wonderous praise. He grinned, unable to control himself. "Yesssss, verrrryyy good job Mr. Vanderbilt," he whispered so only Vickers could hear and even began fluttering his eyelashes for good measure.

A small smile tugged at the corner of his lips. He got it right! Better yet Professor Hotstuff Elwood was happy he got it right. As she moved to the rest of the student's answers his line of vision cleared to show Kurumi just across the way, smiling at him. He tried to muster a return smile, but he could feel his face heating up and shyly shifted his eyes away. Just in time too, there was another question....

Up goes the hand again "Professor, there's also Hazel wood." he remembered that one pretty distinctly, as it was the kind of wood he worked on in their Runes class from last term[/QUOTE]

"Oh hazel wood?" Elijah repeated, "Wooooooow, Vickers. What a GREAT answer! Wouldn't you agree, Professor Elwood? Vickers' brain is just one of his finest assets."

Snicker. Giggle. GUFFAW.

When did Elijah get so gawsh, darned funny?

The didn't have hard bark-like skin like the Bowtruckles, they were different and NOT supposed to be in these woods.

They had been known to come into the forest from time to time but there were a lot of them today and they were making lots of noise....

AND BREAKING THE TREES!!!

One Bowtruckle reached out and tried to scratch one girl (sweetpinkpixie) and his friend jumped out on the ground infront of another who was trying to attack his tree-home.

"Ra!! Raaa! Rit raaa!" The little guy jumped around and was poking his fingers in the air at the all the intruders.

So that was, technically, three more down bringing her total up to seven.

Kurumi began to make her way towards another tree when she felt something suddenly scratch her leg softly. "Ouch..."

o____________O

Looking down Kurumi couldn't help but gasp at the Bowtruckle that was beginning to, or trying at least, to attack her leg. See, Professor Elwood, SHOULD have brought someone else with you. Kurumi somehow doubted that the woman knew how to deal with creatures too, seeing as she had insulted Theroes in front of students like that.

But not the point, there were Bowtruckles coming out of the woodwork - literally - which meant that one of their trees was nearby. Or all of them really seeing as they resided in trees used to make wands.

"Everyone, stop for a second," Kurumi called out. They were all going to upset the poor creatures if they just carried on like this. Ceasing all movement towards any trees, Kurumi instead knelt down so she wasn't towering over the creatures and glanced over at the professor. "Um...professor...did you happen to bring any wood lice or fairy eggs with you?"

Oh right, wood collecting-- based on the guide. Awesome!

He took his parchment and neared the Professor again, smiling shyly as he hovered near the tins for the Ivy, Reed and Vine "Uh... I'll start collecting these Professor." he mumbled as he collected one of each, slipping them gently into his robes pocket.

He turned towards the closest set of trees and matched the label to the list on the parchment. Ok so there was Birch, and Rowan wasnt too far away. He neared the foot of the Birch tree and eyed the ground, bending over and eyeing the fallen twigs and branches until he found something still good enough for their use.

He did the same when he neared the Rowan tree, picking up and discarding the pieces on the forest floor until he was left with one. Then he heard someone-- Kurumi?-- calling out for everyone to stop

He turned towards the sound, those icy blues grew large in alarm as he realized the Forest creatures have made an appearance. They didnt like what they were doing did they? His eyes darted immediately to the Professor. What were they supposed to do now? does she need saving?

The Professor sent them off to do some wood collecting and Vickers had mentioned something about collecting some types or something. YAWN. "I'll help you out, Vee," Elijah insisted, following after the 'Claw. He wanted to get down to the previous hostility as well. "Hey, ya know back at the start before Professor Elwood started asking all her questions about trees, what did you mean by 'dream on'? Do you reckon I don't stand a chance? Or is it that I am way out of her league? I've heard that before, but surely I should be the one to decide who is in my league?"

Just then some bowtruckles began appearing, causing trouble. Elijah saw as one of the pests made as if to try and hurt Kurumi and he reached for his wand out of instinct, determined to start burning some bowtruckles. But, before he could actually react Kurumi had instructed everyone to stop and was asking if they had eggs and stuff on them.

First of all, Gryffie Prefect, breakfast was hours ago. Second of all, THIS WAS NOT THE TIME TO BE THINKING ABOUT FOOD. And thirdly, if she wanted eggs she would need a FIRE to cook them on, and he was certain bowtruckles would make the PERFECT campfire.

He turned to his 'Claw friend hoping that he maybe had a more appropriate idea of what to do in this situation and so far the Professor, who was supposed to be protecting them, was proving to be more than useless... Elijah was starting to question Vickers' taste in women.
