Anyway, back to the question. It seemed that she had been partly correct, which was better than being completely wrong. So, that was good. But her eyebrows raised when Wes had brought up horcruxes. What on Earth was that about? Did people still make those even these days, fake or no?
Trying to put the thought out of her mind (for now, at least), Roxanne focused on the question at hand. How counterfeit objects were detected. Well, that was obvious, wasn't it? "A diagnostic test or charm." Dorian wasn't unobservant. He might not be working on the "active" side of level two, but that didn't mean he couldn't. It didn't mean he wasn't still aware of everything around him, and part of that right now was to keep things under control. Large group of people, and he didn't have headless attack dummies to keep their interest. He had to play things right, and he'd noticed Ms. Carter's nearly imperceptible response to what he'd said to her. He wasn't stupid, either, and he imagined there would be a discussion at some point. Another thing he always was was polite, after all, at least in professional circumstances, and he'd explain that if he had to. Although, he nodded as she pushed past it and offered up another suggestion. "That would be the most likely way of locating one. Provided we have an idea that there has been one noticed, and we have the ability of using said diagnostic without breaking any other laws. What if you were in an area with a lot of Muggles?," he asked. "We wouldn't exactly be able to just take out our wands to cast a charm. So other tests are needed." Hence the laboratory back here in their office. Quote:

She did, however, snort lightly at the last question. Well...wasn't it obvious? "I mean, if the object in question isn't doing what it's supposed to do, wouldn't that mean it was counterfeit?" She asked, one of her eyebrows raised. Either that..or it was a dumb object and was broken. But that was the only thing that came to her head...The redhead ran a hand through her hair before eyeing the Dorin guy. Hmmph. And there we went with the reactions from the other end of the department. He'd raised an eyebrow at the snort, but otherwise turned a completely calm expression to the new MLES officer at her disbelieving comment. "That's assuming the object is meant to do something in the first place, and also that not working correctly automatically makes it counterfeit. Would you assume all protection amulets actually do something, Ms. Whitworth, or do you agree that some of them are merely representations of something meant to make people think that they shouldn't attack?," he replied, returning her quesion with a few of his own. For what it was worth, what would keep someone from manufacturing a counterfeit DMLE badge, to fool people into thinking they worked here. It was the same concept, and their badges certainly didn't do anything other than identify them. Quote:

HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA...
Whatever...he had better not laugh out loud during this thing.
Now, to the question. How could we learn that an object was a counterfeit one? ''I think there are several ways to do so.'' the young man taking a step closer to the boss who had asked the question, finally getting out of the place he had hid himself in the small crowd of employees. ''First of all, if we got the information or notice that someone has 'suffered' from an object which would be harmless in general, like a sneaskope, we can tell that most likely it is a counterfeit object. Second; we can test it by forcing the owner of the object to 'use' it and see what it does.'' Yes, that was the best. ''But well...as far as i am concerned a counterfeit object does not have to be something dangerous. So, in order to determine a simple and mere counterfeit object, what about just comparing it in every way with the real thing?'' Let the YATIs strike again, Dorian thought wryly at Mr. Carter's first comment. At least the training appeared to be amusing some of them, or possibly just Wes's suggestion of fake horcruxes earlier. Either way, it was interesting seeing into the younger man's thought processes. "If you assume that anyone who claims to have a horcrux has reason to, I'd guess not. Not exactly, but then, you also have to realize that if anyone is admitting to having a horcrux, odds are they don't. Given the very reasons one would create one," he replied. Just to hopefully give him something to think about before he went out and did anything stupid. Although, as he'd sepearated himself from the pack, he'd received a nod.
"You're correct. Essentially," he responded. "Ignoring the suggestion that you use innocent bystanders as guinea pigs, or even torture the victims more for the sake of identification. However, yes. A rogue sneakoscope is most likely counterfeit." Another reason why CMEC dealt with certifying dark detectors in the first place, although that wasn't the topic being discussed. Simple identification was, and he flicked his wand to summon a few small boxes to the front of the room. "You did hit on an important point, though, Mr. Carter, and one I touched on not that long ago. Not all counterfeit objects are dangerous, beyond their mere existence to create questions about the true items. So here's a test for you all. There are Ministry badges in each of these boxes, and each box contains a different department." Just to make things a bit more interesting. "Feel free to look at them. Pick any box, just keep in mind that there is at least one counterfeit badge in each box that you are trying to locate. Just by looking at them." And he stepped back to let them go at it,hopefullynot all rushing for the same box at once. OOC: There are four links, to MoM logos/badges. Just to give you an idea of what you're looking at, so just pretend you're looking at a box of a whole lot of the same thing, and RP how you would identify one that isn't real. Just have fun, and I'll move things on after a day or two.
