Despite the obvious sarcasm she had just heard escape Miss Odessa's mouth, Callie was appreciative of the correct answer coming next. "Very good. Gideon turned to the subject in their textbook to try and pick a stone to answer the latest question with, listening to those appeared more knowledgeable on the subject who were already answering. Jonathan thought of this through. What were they again? The professor did mention about the planets and technically some students already did. Jonathan raised his hand recklessly without even thinking it "The Water stone, professor" opppps. What did it mean again? Jonathan took a tiny time to give it a thought and finally remembered "It's reconciliation, cleansing and healing" he said in a more confused tone, not really sure if that answer is correct. But it's worth the try. Definitely. "That is correct, Mister Kim. The water stone is vastly important to our readings." She gave the Slytherin boy a happy nod and turned to see who was next.

When Professor Elwood called on Kurumi Hollingberry she had expected to hear a name of one of the 13 stones but instead was met with a question. That was a good question. Calista herself did not really have much practice in Lithomancy herself but had done her research before deciding to tackle it for a lesson, and it so turned out that she had an answer for the Prefect.
"Prefect Hollingberry brings up a good point, perhaps one that you all were wondering as well: Why does our reading include 13 stones?" She paused and returned from the board to her seat on the front edge of her desk. "Firstly let me just say that there are a few different types of Lithomancy readings where some use only 3 stones and another 16, but why 13 for ours?" She pointed at the list they now had on the blackboard behind her.

"The planets and heavenly bodies listed as the first eight on the list are just shy of being incomplete." Yes, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto were missing--she didn't believe all that dragon dung about the latter no longer being a planet, in her eyes she just saw that as the big men being mean to the young a weak. Anyways.... "If you think about it, it make sense. One thing was that 13 was an ancient Holy number so it's no suprise really as to why that number was decided but in addition, back when Lithomancy was first started, in Ancient times when the Greek and Roman civilizations were young, how far could the naked eye see into the night sky? There were no telescopes. This is why only the moon, the sun, mercury, venus, earth, mars, jupiter and saturn are listed, most of which, hopefully you have noticed, are named or possess qualities of the two civilzations' gods." Yes, they were getting a little history but that never killed anyone. "However, some more recent studiers of the subject include the later discovered planets but we will be sticking with the original stuff."
Tossing a strand of hair out of her face, Callie began again. "Now as for the last 5, they are typically up to the reader and are usually earth bound things like elements or at least something to do with human beings. For the sake of keeping things sane, we are all going to use the same five personal rocks."
Once she had established some background on the rocks Professor Elwood decided they needed to move on. "So now that we have talked about the things we will use to do the reading, why don't we talk about what we will be casting them into. The feild, some call it, is made up of a string made out of whatever material you'd like placed on a flat surface. Typically the circle feild should be no larger than a foot wide to ensure a decent gathering of stones." She paused as she tried to think of how to phrase her next question.
"The reading field is seperated into sections, does anyone have an ideas as to how many and what they stand for?" Definately an intermediate question but she felt they could handle it.
