Fluffy white carpets, colourful square cushions for them to sit on and what seemed to be muggle bouncy balls for them to float. Honestly Jacques hadn't expected Professor Bellaire to even know what those balls looked like, some of them had smiley faces and he thought her demeanour was far more strict than that. Apparently she was capable of it though, they were to take partners but Jacques didn't want one, or better yet, he couldn't find one. Everyone had friends they'd made during the first month of school while he didn't make any. He didn't want any to be clear, he preferred staying by himself, that way he didn't have to worry about hurting anyones feelings or thinking of something interesting to do or say. Friends were a distraction from school work anyway, they had no respect for silence or anything else.
Anyway Wingardium Leviosa, things were harder for him, that was why he tried to practice his spells before classes, but that didn't always mean he got it right and that frustrated him greatly. "Wingaw-dium Leviosa," He swished and flicked his wrist but the ball quivered, levitated a meter off the floor before landing on the soft carpeting. Jacques looked down at the ball then down at his socked feet. How would he be able to pronounce this right when he could hardly get his 'r's right? Hmm, charms weren't his thing after all. He tried again though really trying to get the 'r' but being born deaf gave him a serious disadvantage when it came to speaking, he never learned to speak right and after he got his hearing aide at six, his mother tried to help him with speaking while signing, and lessons and therapy but that didn't mean he had it down 100%. "Wingar-dium Leviosa." He stressed his 'r' this time making wingardium two words instead of one. Not good. The ball barely quivered this time and he was only happy the rug didn't catch on fire.
Jacques ears burned red and his brows furrowed in frustration and instead of trying again he stepped back to the wall disappearing from the throng of students. It wasn't hard for him to disappear though, he was tiny for his age, tiny with large ears and that was enough to make him invisible. That was the best thing about his size. Everyone was either talking, laughing or doing their spells and so, he switched his aid off and pulled his feet up to look around instead, practising in his head instead.
From where he was, he saw some kids levitating each other and Jacques rolled his eyes, how was that remotely safe? Professor Bellaire didn't think it was either, he saw it on her face then they were against the wall and he was snorting before hugging his knees to continue watching.
