When Bellaire mentioned a partner, Max looked to Ellie quickly, then examined all the other older students to make sure they weren't planning on asking her, too. Just to be sure, he rolled off his cushion and hurried over to her when they were set free to the task. "Partner?" he inquired lightly, extending his hand out to her to signify to everyone else that it wasn't just a casual exchange. They were going to be PARTNERS.
WHAT?! The older kids couldn't play with the balls? What. A. TEASE, Bellaire.
Ellie had half a mind to steal one of the firstie's balls out of mid air just in spite of the horrific turn of events, when Max stopped her. And she felt much better about this whole thing. Good thing Max was here today. Because she really would have stolen a ball. And Bellaire would lose some serious Ellie-points.
She reached for his hand, ready to accept this partnership, but hesitated, letting her hand hover just over her friend's.
"Do you trust me enough?" You know because...if she were to levitate him unevenly...it couldn't be much fun for the boy.
Or maybe it would. Like flying an out-of-control broom.....without the broom.
