Technically technical all the time Bookaholic Snape had to use all of his self control not to allow his thoughts to become readable upon his face at Bella's final words. It was almost as if she had been reading his mind earlier, though he knew that was impossible with the shields he had in place. Pushing all thoughts of Tara to the very back of mind and sealing them away, he turned his dark eyes up to Bella.
"Whether or not I can fight back is not really issue," he said rather arrogantly. "However, you are correct when you say I chose not to. I do deserve this {though Snape did not think it was for the same reason as Bella}. As for me wanting you to hurt me... Really Bella, who desires pain? And so what if I go back to the Mudblood? If I can't have you, she'll do..." he said, cringing inside of himself for saying it.
