Had one been able to overhear the dragon whisperer, one might have heard him coaching it along, with sentiments like, "Come on, little guy! Or girl! You can do it! Just a few more cracks and you'll be out of there! Go baby go! Daddy's here to catch you! C'mon!"
But he was thankfully whispering quietly enough that NO ONE could dare hear him nor make fun of him for his whispers.
He did look up from the egg!hatching, however briefly, when he was reminded that students were answering his question still. Oh yeah. Most of them were close by guessing Romanian Longhorn although some apparently thought Romania was in Norway?? but none were on the money until one Gryffindor spoke up.
"Yes!" Williamson almost shouted, pointing at the girl and grinning hugely. "YES. This IS a hybrid dragon, and you all are MOST fortunate for being allowed to witness the birth of such a rare baby.
"As far as I know, and as far as my colleagues in Romania agree, this baby should be a crossbreed between the Swedish Short-Snout and the Romanian Longhorn." He looked at Cece for some reason, probably because she was from Sweden and because he knew this baby was going to grow up to be particularly dangerous.
He was about to say more when a piece of shell flew off the egg and landed close to the kids. Time for gloves and shields!
The dragon was a hybrid between a Swedish Shirt-Snout and a Romanian Longhorn? See?! She still had the idea, the baby dragon would be of Romanian descent
even if it just a teeny tiny bit. But wait....aren't hybrids like more dangerous than single bred ones? Was it the reason why there were so many Professors there? To make sure nothing bad would happen to them? If so, then she was not going to doubt that they'll be witnessing a dragon hatching without anyone getting hurt.
Pfft. She trusted the Professors. They were teachers for a reason.
.............then that happened..............
a large piece of the egg's shell fell off, rocketing towards them!

The dragon squawked again, and another piece of eggshell went flying. Another tremor ran through the egg and then it seemed to be melting off the dragon, disintegrating into little pieces as the dragon finally escaped its home.
The little, scaly green thing with sharp, beady black eyes might have seemed ugly to some but to the man it was staring at, it was the most beautiful sight in the world. Letting out a tiny baby cry of confusion, the dragon flapped its fragile wings and shook off any remaining bits of slime and eggshell.
Finally, the dragon could stretch its wings at last, after that long, long nap!
...and more and more shell pieces were flying off from the egg. All the Ravenclaw could do was watch, frozen on the spot, her mouth parted, and all eyes on the egg that was slowly losing its defenses, close to letting out the creature inside of it.
Every time an egg shell went up into the air, Beezus couldn't help but swallow. She could feel the Professors building a shield to cover all of them. Yaay! They were protected, but oh, she wanted to run and hug that baby dragon immediately when it comes off its shell!
And another piece.....
O__________________O Her eyes almost popped out of its sockets when the rest of the egg went melting and a baby dragon emerged from it. She heard its little squeal, and she also wanted to squeal in utter delight, yet she sat still for a second, marveling at the scaly, green thing which as of the moment seemed like the second best thing to ice cream.
Finally, after a whole minute she went screaming happily,
"AAAAAHH!" A baby dragon! An adorable, cute baby draaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagon!
