He kind of guessed that she was perfectly happy, if not possibly moreso, just sitting in silence for a few moments.
But when he had finished his sandwich, wiped his hands on a napkin, and taken a swig of pumpkin juice, Cornelius was more than ready to engage in some kind of conversation with the girl that had slowly but surely become one of his favorite things about Hogwarts. Without making a fuss, his hand gently found her own and entwined their fingers, allowing this to be their first contact before his light brown eyes roamed over to find her own gaze. "Hey," he greeted with a warm smile, quietly observing her as she observed all of the different people around them.
It was kind of obvious that Cornelius was happy that she had found her way to the Great Hall at the same time he had, vague amusement crossing his lightly tanned expression as he watched her for just a moment. "Mmm," Aspen wasn't QUITE ready to give up her people-watching, but she always ready for Cornelius's hand. Her fingers were already trained and accustomed to his. They knew what to do and twined with those familiar Rune digits.
...
"I was thinking about goblins," she finally told him, as if answering an unasked question. "Imagine if goblins went to Hogwarts instead of humans. I wonder if the Great Hall would be so buzzy?" ...."I was thinking about homicide too. But not together. Separately."
Perfectly normal thoughts, those were.
Aspen cozied up to Cornelius's side and gently put her temple to his shoulder. She was glad she had not-so-coincidentally made it to the Great Hall with him, too. |
