Maybe he shouldn't ask? Right. "There's nothing wrong with making friends with older people. They can be pretty cool and awesome, like you," he said, his eyes casting away to the Hufflepuff table and some of the people he considered to be 'cool' and 'awesome'. One of them was leaving today...
Alec looked back at Ad and smiled. "Hey, you can still keep in touch with them," he said, "You know, owls? They're pretty handy. And you're stuck with your younger brother until... erm..." He wasn't going to let Ad leave him at Hogwarts. Ever.
Sit with her? "Sure!" he said, sliding onto the seat next to the girl, "Are you... okay?"
Ad sighed.
"I know there's nothing wrong with it, but I just...I feel like I'm being abandoned" all over again she finished in her head. She ran her hands through her hair. She had left her glasses in her trunk, not caring if she couldn't see anything or not.
Ad nodded.
"I know. And I will do that, but I've always preferred communicating with someone face-to-face. And yes, I've got you" she grinned at him. See? There was her smiling and happy. Her face softened a little.
"You don't want me to leave, do you?"
Ad smiled and slung her arm around Alec's shoulders, giving him a slight squeeze.
"I'll be just fine, Alekins" she lied. Okay? Okay wasn't in her dictionary. She was never okay. But she didn't want to tell Alec that.
