Kurumi locked eyes with the niffler as he continued to growl and be rather unpleasant while holding the shiny - his precious if you will. That IS what it looked like he was saying, come to think of it. Kurumi decided to try something that she did with Walnut when he was being unpleasant - the slow blink. It usually put creatures at ease and, well, maybe she would get lucky and be able to take the precious back without using the charm?
Sloooooowly, the Gryffindor closed her eyes and waited for some sort of reaction...which she got, but not in the way she had been hoping. The niffler let out a long and deep growl, sniffing the air for a moment before turning its nose up at her. Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerm.... Kurumi's eyes flicked back to Madam Pink and she sighed. She still had to...test the waters as it were, right? Reluctantly, Kurumi reached forward and, with reflexes light lightening, the niffler swiped at Kurumi's hand, hissing like a tea pot on the stove. "Waaaaaah!" she squeaked, pulling her hand back. Right, got it. Your precious.
Picking up her wand now, Kurumi practice the circular movement and flick again while murmuring the spell to herself. Here goes nothing? The niffler was looking even fiercer than ever, which was unfortunate, and it made Kurumi even more nervous. "M-M-MAH-len CAH-len," she said rather unconvincingly. The first sign that the spell had gone wrong was the color of the smoke. It wasn't purple by any stretch of the imagination and resembled more of a dark teal than anything. The spell wrapped itself around the niffler and quickly faded away. It's beady eyes glared at her and it growled once again, pulling the precious closer to its furry body.
No need to try and take it. Kurumi could see that this attempt was nothing but fail.
