Overall, though, she was fairly pleased with herself for being oh-so RIGHT for once. Especially after the eye-roll she'd received from her previous answer. Not that impressing PPP was important to her or anything it just...felt nice to be correct.
However, what PPP added at the end did NOT sit well with her. "Ellie," she said, "My name's Ellie." NOT 'Little Darling'. Do NOT call her 'Little Darling'. EVER. Okay?
Okay.
Good.
Her eyes lowered to the desk and the paper the woman put onto it. It had FAR too much writing, truth be told. And homework? WHY did they have HOMEWORK?!
UGH.
She eyed Emrys and gave him a look of distaste. Work was gross, right? Right. History was gross, right? Right.
Ugh. Poppy giggled when the girl introduced herself. Ellie was such a silly little name, she could not help but to giggle. But it wasn’t that funny, and five seconds later Poppy had forgotten her name. Penny, right? Yeah, Penny. Quote:

Kurumi took the handout and began to read it over while also trying to process the ridiculous amount of information they had been given verbally. Merlin, her hand was going to fall off from all this note taking.
Finally catching up sort of with her notes, Kurumi set her quill down and attempted to prepare herself for the practical part of the lesson, skimming her notes again just to make sure it all made sense. Call her curious, but something sort of caught her attention and she raised her hand. "Madam Poppy," she said softly to get the woman's attention. "What...sort of side effects are there?" All magic had its costs, and, well, knowing what COULD happen would sort of help make sure that it didn't, right? "Are they side effects of the spells themselves? Or is it more from using Entrancing Enchantments too many times on the same subject?" Or something entirely different all together? Poppy rested her hand on her waist as she tried to recall some examples of bad side effects. ”Well, there is the one I just told that little miss over there,” Poppy pointed to a Raenclaw girl, ”in regards to the Loyalty Inducing charm.” Maybe if she had been paying attention she would have heard it. Poppy was not repeating herself. ”The Cheering Charm can cause uncontrollable fits of laughter, if poorly executed, and people can die from laughing too hard, you know? There were also a few incidents in the 2040’s, I believe, were people who had performed the Flattery Charm caused real butterflies to appear in other people’s stomach.” Hopefully that was enough. Poppy paused and listened to Kara’s next question. ”Very good question! The side-effects are from the spells themselves. Some Entrancing Enchantments have intended and specific targets, and can’t be freely used on everyone and everything. For example, the Cheering Charm won’t work on dogs; it will make them have lung spasms, which may result in chocking or an asthma attack. Their tails will still wag, though. The ones I will be teaching are general spells so you won’t have this problem. Does that answer your question?” Quote:

After all, she too suffered from the Letter Cubed name syndrome and her request had been one he simply could not turn down. It wasn't every day that a guy got to walk a dozen or more nifflers up and down the castle, was it?
So there he was, ushering a group of nifflers on leashes upstairs, up more stairs, and up yet more stairs until he arrived in what had been the Divination tower way back when he had attended Hogwarts. Willy peeked his head into the seminar and smirked at the sight of the ongoing class, or more specifically, smirked at the sight of the INCREDIBLY pink woman leading said class.
"Hello," the tall Creatures professor called out toward her with a wave, nudging the door open with his foot to make room for the fuzzy nifflers, all of whom were just going nuts with sniffling. "Where do you want these lil guys?"
He was going to stick around jussssssst long enough to set the nifflers loose, and then he was going back to his hut for a nap. Heh. Good luck, kiddies. Poppy blushed and giggled when the handsome man walked in the room. She ran towards him, causing very small earthquakes every time her weigh hit the floor. If he had been just a few more feet away, the Divination tower would have collapsed. ”Oooh, hello there!” She flirted and clutched his arm. ”Right there, let me help you!” She giggled again and led the man to the front of the classroom, still clinging to his arm. ”Just anywhere here will be fine, we will be using them in a jiffy, you beautiful creature.” Sadly, there were still some raised hands, and now there was a ‘professional’ in the room so Poppy had to act super extra good! She let go of his arm, regrettably, and turned her attention to the students. Quote:

So she slowly raised her hand and asked."Madam Poppy how long does a spell last? I guess we will know when it wears off but is there a timeframe on how long each one lasts?" ”Yes, miss… Uhh, you!” Poppy pointed at the girl, then listened to her question. ”It’s the same as it is for any other spell, little darling. It takes concentration, lots of it. You may be able to make a spell last an hour or a week, but at your level of experience your spells will probably less about an hour or less. It takes practice and concentration. The affect of autogenous spells tends to be shorter, while the effect of heterogenous spells tend to last longer. Heterogenous are much easier perform, too.” With that, Poppy clapped her hands together and scanned the room for more hands. None? Good. ♥ ♥ ♥ ”Attention, please! We are going to start the practical portion of our class soon, so please pay attention. You will be dealing with nifflers, which can be nasty little animals. You must know that nifflers love gold and shiny trinkets, so here is your challenge.” She moved behind the desk, opened drawer, and pulled out a pink velvet bag from it. ”Inside this bag there are small shiny objects which will attract the nifflers,” which was why she wasn’t repealing them yet. ”Each one of you will work with one niffler and give it the shiny object. Once you attempt to retrieve it, the niffler will protest, so be careful! They can bite! What we are going to learn is to ease the retrieval of the item using the Befriending Charm. This charm will allow you to retrieve the charm from the niffler or even have the niffler offer it to you, depending on its potency. The Befriending Charm is a Heterogenous-Storge Entrancing Enchantment that only works on small animals, such as nifflers, owls, kneazle, and dogs. It will put the animal into a trance of trust, causing it not to fear the caster.
“Once you have cast the spell, you must pet the niffler! Petting or hugging an animal after casting the Befriending Charm helps strengthen its effect. Got it? You must take the item, hold it tightly in your hand, and present it to the niffler. A befriended niffler will not scratch your hand or bite you to take the item back, but otherwise it can. “ She swished her wand and the information appeared on the board. Instructions 1. Take a shiny object from me the use it to lead one of the nifflers back to your desk. 2. Give the niffler the object and try to retrieve carefully, just to see its reaction. 3. Cast the Befriending Charm on the niffler and pet it. 4. Retrieve the item, hold it tightly in your hand and present it to the niffler.
Then she turned around and addressed the class again. ”Now, before we begin, you must learn the Befriending Charm. Wands out and ready!” She clapped and waited for them to follow her instruction. ”The incantation is Malin Calin.” She paused and repeated the incantation again, very clearly. ”MAH-len CAH-len. Repeat it with me, MAH-len CAH-len. Good, good. The Wand movement is a quick circle motion, and a flick at the end.” She demonstrated. ”Malin,” She said performing a circle with her wand, ”Calin,” she flicked it. "If performed correctly, a purple smoke will emit from your wand and surround the niffler." She turned to the board once again and made the instruction to the spell appear. The Befriending Charm Incantation: Malin Calin Wand Movement: Circle and flick ”Now, come up and take an object, then approach the niffler, show it the object, and lead it back to your seat. Practice, practice, practice!” OOC: For this practical portion of the class you must have five good posts to receive full credit. At least three of those posts must be practicing the spell, whether your character fails at first, or he/she just wants to practice on air a few times. Nifflers might growl or even scratch your character, but this will not kill your character, so don’t be a Poppy, or a drama queen.
There will be a second practical portion to this class, and once that begins you can't go back and complete this one. You will have 48 hours to complete this, until Thursday 4AM PST / Thursday 11AM GMT.
Poppy is still here if you need help or have questions. You may work in pairs, if you want to. |
