Well... She IS right, this is a class. He would talk to her later.

As Auntie began to talk again, Daichi leaned forward in his chair and took his muggle pen to write down notes. But the more she talked, the more confused he got and when weird words came out of her mouth the Slytherin simply stared at her. His expression blank, showing that not all information had gone through.

Scratching his head, Daichi looked at his half scribbled parchment with confused eyes before looki.g back up at Auntie. "huh?" he blinked and it was his most intelligent response. He is NOT stupid though! Just. ... A little sloooow sometimes. And his attention span usually faded away when he was giving information that was too long for him. And the woman did talk alot!
”Very good answer! You can use it to distract and even daze someone. What this little mister is doing is demonstrating the effects of the Entrancing Enchantment to the class. A round of applause for him!” She put her wand down on her table and clapped enthusiastically.

It was even difficult to read all those scribbles she'd made on the paper. She'd probably have to go through her notes again later that day and rewrite it all. At least it would give her more time away from studying for her NEWTs, which was sort of a positive, even if she was still using that time for school-related stuff.

The Ravenclaw set her quill now for a moment and tried to relax her cramped writing hand as she considered Madam Poppy's question. When would an Entrancement Enchantment be appropriate to use? Hmm...

She raised her hand. "You could use a Pragma-Heterogenous spell on people who are fighting or arguing if you wanted them to stop, since Pragma can influence feelings of peace and harmony."
”Very good example! You can use it to end a dispute, or at least ease the tension until the authorities arrive. This way none of the people engaged in the fight will be harmed.” Poppy gave the girl a nod and a pat on the head.

Ellie scribbled her notes down in a notebook while Madam Pricklepot went oooon and on about this stuff. Just when her hand started cramping, the large woman stopped talking. Ellie sighed and set her pen down. Now, in what occasion might an Entrancement Enchantment be useful?

Ellie raised her hand. "Well, maybe if you forget or... just don't do a homework assignment, you can cast the Flattery Charm on yourself and hope to flatter your professor enough to let it slide." Not a bad idea, actually.
Poppy pursed her lips and crossed her arms. ”Is it your hearing or your judgment that is impaired? You are supposed to be suggesting ways in which E.E.’s are useful and, key word, APPROPRIATE!!! She banshee-shrieked the last word for emphasis, just in case the girl didn’t hear her. ”Using it to escape punishment is not appropriate!” Ugh, go figure, another Ravenclaw! Smarty-pants… NOT WITH POPPY PRUNELLA PRICKLEPOT!!!

Kurumi sat in her seat, momentarily distracted by the mispronunciation of her name. It had put the Muggle Studies professor to shame really. She had been called Karumi Hollingberg before by her, but Madam Poppy had taken this to a whole new level.

When the question of how to define Entrancing Enchantments was asked, Kurumi remained silent. She really only new basics and was unable to define the type of magic without using the same words to define it....which really defeated the purpose of defining it at all. So, she opted to just sit back and listen until each student's answer was addressed and then she took her quill to her parchment and wrote down notes...lots and lots of notes. Why was it that all the seminar people liked to talk? They ALL talked SO much.

Hand flying over her parchment, Kurumi furiously attempted to keep up with what all was being said and finding herself unable to take a break to perhaps offer up an answer herself. Cover up emotions... Kurumi paused in her note taking for a moment. Autogenous.... She could block out all the pain and despair she was feeling right now, right? That is what that implied? Even if it was covering it up and temporary, it sounded better than crying all the time. Madam Poppy's little explanation about allowing people to mourn went in one ear and out the other as she thought about this. Using these spells to control her mood and therefore perhaps controlling her ability? Sounded like a win to her even if her logic was flawed.

Not really feeling as though she had anything else to offer, her thoughts currently swamped with convoluted notions of how to use these charms, the prefect remained in her seat taking careful notes as she continued to listen.
Someone doesn’t need to be charmed to be put into a trance…” Poppy commented raising an eyebrow. Yeah… she was not eating cookies from someone who looks all mummified and creepy like that. Blerg! Shudders.

He could certainly use a heterogenous pragma right about now...
Poppy giggled at the Ravenclaw boy. ”Pssssssssst! Kneazle got your tongue? Heeheehee!” She snickered to the opposite side of the classroom, mocking the boy.

Ellie did some EYE ROLLING of her OWN. And if PPP didn't know what 'entranced' meant, should she REALLY be teaching Entrancing Enchantments?!!

By the time PPPP was finished explaining, the Sixth year could barely remember what the woman had started with. But basically, she was asking for when one of these enchantments would be useful? HMMMMM.

"That S- one," Storage or whatever it was, "Could be used in situations where you need to meet new people, and are particularly shy or if you need to get along with someone you're not too fond of, yes?" Sounded right to her. A charm that inspired friendship? "Or perhaps with an unruly animal you need to tame or work with." Gain its trust, see?

Ellie knew what she was talking about. Sort of.
”PRECISELY!” For this answer, Poppy jump high in the air—a whole half an inch off the ground. ”These charms are very, very, veeeeeeery useful against unruly creatures. There have been many attempts to use Entrancing Enchantments to tame Dark Creatures, like werewolves and dementors, but they have all failed. There is a charm, or two, that works wonders on Grindylows, and another, I believe, for Pixies. Most of them, however, will work against common creatures. The bigger the creature, the more difficult it is, of course. Very good answer, little darling!”

She carefully thought out her answer before slowly raising her hand and getting ready to duck at the same time if Madam Poppy decided to throw something at her this time. "Uh Madam Poppy I think that the Autogenous Eros Flattery Charm might work well with people who are angry with you. When you use that, they won't be anymore." immediately ducking after answering saying that.
”No, no, no, no, no, sweetie. Like I said, these charms do not replace the person’s emotions. So, if you used the Flattery Charm on someone who is angry with you, they would still be angry with you, but they would demonstrate otherwise. For as long as the charm is in effect, anyway.”

Violet had already been overwhelmed by all the information the teacher gave, but she gave it her best try. "Er, Madam Poppy, maybe you could use a storge-heterogenous spell on a burglar or something so that you can put them in a trance to act nice and might even get away from them if they were trying to rob you?" Violet knew that dangerous witches and wizards were smarter than that, but you never know if there is a witch or wizard that isn't as smart as the seemed.
”I like the way you’re thinking, and that could work, but it would be very difficult. Storge Entrancing Enchantments have been mostly developed through their use in creatures, and they don’t always work in the same way for humans. I believe it was Amanda Milestone who invented a Loyalty Inducing Charm but she studied it on dogs, so when she tried to cast it on a human it caused them to bark, bite, and, well… pee everywhere. It made them behave like dogs, too, so it’s hard, but not impossible! At your age, your best bet would be to use a Heterogenous-Pragma and hope to Merlin it works!”

Most of your answers included dealing with nasty people, putting a stop to dangerous disputes and confrontations, relaxing before an event, like an exam, cheering for your team, lifting someone's spirits, etc. These are all super-duper fabulous response!" She giggled and winked at her class.

"Now we must address some of the limits and dangers associated with them. First of all, all of these, with the exception of Agape, are temporary. Sooner or later they will fade away. Secondly, some of them tend to have nasty side effects, but unless you are trying something funny you should be okay. Finally, these can be dangerous. How, you ask? Well, love-related ones, mostly. This is the messy department. People do stupid things when they are in love, even if it's just a temporary crush, so you should always be careful. It wouldn't cause a third wizard war, but it could embarrass someone and even damage their reputation!" Of course, Poppy didn't care about any of these things, but Tate would ruin her reputation, and rightly so, if she had students running around and messing with people's emotions mindlessly.

"Phew, so there you have it. Any questions before we move on to the practice portion of our class? Everyone got down all the thermology, everyone understand what they mean?If you need something cleared up ask before we begin practice. In the mean time, I will pass these around so you can keep them for your records. You will need it for homework.

SPOILER!!: History of Entrancing Enchantments
Entrancing Enchantments date back to Ancient Rome at around 55-45B.C. There is some indication that the first person to ever use these was Cleopatra VII, generally known simply as Cleopatra. This is very difficult to prove, but we have some poorly kept stones with incantations scribed in Egyptian. These stones were, however, found in Europe sometime during 50A.D., which is a long time after Cleopatra’s death, but they date at around 40B.C, during which Cleopatra was very much alive. Additionally, the words that most commonly appear in these texts are “Isis,” the goddess Cleopatra was associated with, and “love.” And finally, the two surviving charms from these documents further prove that Cleopatra invented them. For this reason, Cleopatra is celebrated as the mother of Entrancing Enchantments.

By 50.A.D., however, these charms were already growing in popularity, so it’s safe to assume that they had been circulating privately for several decades. They continued to grow in popularity until the fall of the Roman Empire, roughly around the late 400’s A.D. After that they were banned. Witchcraft became a serious offense and so the practice of any type of magic was prohibited. It is, of course, certain that they continued to be practiced privately and secretly throughout the Middle Ages, because when Entrancing Enchantments show up again they have evolved significantly.

They reappearance again, centuries later, during the Renaissance, but are most commonly seen during the Elizabethan Era, from 1558 to 1603. There is an abundant amount of evidence indicating that from a very early age Elizabeth Tudor practice Entrancing Enchantments and we have possession of several of the charms she invented. It is possible that her mother, Anne Boleyn had some knowledge of these, but she was a squib so she couldn’t have performed them herself. Elizabeth evolved these charms, not only by making powerful love-related spells, but by creating charms related to all emotions and states of being. It is because of her that they are called “Entrancing Enchantments.” To this day, she remains one of the pioneers for Entrancing Enchantments. After Elizabeth’s death, James I’s came to the throne and he was an avid persecutor of witches, so once again we reach a dark age for Entrancing Enchantments and magic in general.

Now, don’t go thinking that Entrancing Enchantments is a woman’s thing only! The third most important and influential figure in these charms shows up several centuries later, in the mid-1800s. He is the famous composer and pianist, Franz Liszt. Mr. Liszt took these charms to a whole new level. Yes, he perfected the use of autogenous Entrancing Enchantments and their use on animate and inanimate objects. He was even able to compose charms into his music, charming some girls into insanity! We have records of audience members fighting for Mr. Liszt’s gloves at the end of his performances, and people who testified that “Liszt's playing raised the mood of audiences to a level of mystical ecstasy” (Walker, Virtuoso Years). As a result, Franz Liszt is considered the third most important figure in Entrancing Enchantments.

So, there you have it, a brief history of these charms, from Antiquity to the Romantic Period. A timeline of about two thousand years with these three figures, Cleopatra VII, Elizabeth I, and Franz Liszt, as the most important contributors to the field of Entrancing Enchantments.
