As soon as Sierra had corrected the Puffer, she regretted it. Why? Not because of the Puffer. She could care less about the girl and whether she was happy, sad, offended, or annoyed. Sierra didn't think much about the feelings of others. Not unless they actually meant something to her.

It was because of her mother, who she knew wouldn't tolerate Sierra being rude to anyone in her class. Or anyone at all, for that matter. She peered up at Lafay, hoping the woman hadn't heard what she'd said. She bit her bottom lip as she looked forward and ignored the Puffer. The girl so wasn't worth getting in trouble over.

I didn't correct you because I thought you wanted to be corrected. I corrected you because I felt like it, Puffer Girl. That's what she wanted to say, at least. She didn't dare cause any trouble in front of her mother, though.
