She sat back up to consider his sincerity about owling with her dad. That was the thing about Cornelius - he usually DID mean what he said. Sure he'd joke, but mostly Aspen just took every thing he said as absolute truth. She'd be sure to include that in her letter, too.
"'It' being me," Aspen nodded along, but she didn't realize he hadn't ever asked permission. Actually, it had never once occurred to Aspen to THINK about his past. It was a huge oversight on her part and entirely uncharacteristic. Aspen usually thought things to death. "How do you know when something requires permission or not? Seems like a pretty gray area. But you should probably ask about important things..." Like... him.
...she was looking at him more intently now. Cornelius was under her magnifying glass. What made him trail off about his past? Was it smart for her to start guessing?
Cornelius laughed as Aspen told him he was bent out of shape, even lopsided, and watched as she made herself a bit lopsided, as though to explain further.
"Okay, maybe a bit lopsided," he decided to agree with her playfully, flashing her a warm smile before he turned back to their conversation about permission.
"Well, yeah, it's important to get permission for some things. I mean, my parents want to know about stuff but..." he paused, trying to think of the right words.
"I dunno, they've never really cared too much about that part of my life, I guess. I mean, they'll know if I have a girlfriend, but they don't expect me to clear it with them beforehand."
Cornelius reflected back on the question she posed; how do you know when something requires permission?
"I dunno, I guess it just depends on the parents," he decided with a shrug and a weak smile.
"If you really have to wonder about it, you probably should be asking permission." He flashed her a grin, one that he wore often, that reflected his light attitude about most things.
"And my parents have never shown any express interest in any girl I've dated before." But...he'd never dated Aspen before. And he'd never really liked a girl as he was finding he liked her, and maybe...his parents would want to hear about the girl that was making his Hogwarts life better?
