Violet looked at the Huffie that was sitting in the classroom that had answered a question that the professor asked earlier before. How behind was this kid? She shook her head at him in disappointment. He will definitely lose some house or get a strict tell off from the professor for sure. Quote:

Maybe mixing those two would be like a negative and positive thus cancelling each other at the end? Quote:

What would be in it? Well, Elise always had to mix cacao powder into hers but everyone seemed to be saying that. Shrugging, she raised her hand. "The allergen itself, and an anti-allergen. The anti-allergen would mask the allergy so that the body wouldn't recognize it and so balance it out."
Lowering, her hand, she began to take notes and maybe draw a few doodles on her parchment. Quote:

So she raised her hand up and answered, "Professor, the anti allergen potion mus contain a substance a person is allergic to, and also the opposite substance which reduces its effect." Quote:

"Um, I think one thing you would put into the potion would be whatever any specific person is allergic to, maybe in a smaller quantity or lesser amount." That made sense to Lily especially if they were making a potion to deal with allergies. Quote:

He raised his hand to answer Lafay's latest question. "Well I know muggles sometimes use vaccinations with a little bit of the allergin in them to try and combat the reactions...they always say a little bit of exposure over a long period of time helps," he replied. From what he'd heard, though, they weren't very effective. Still..."I'm guessing that means in our own potions we'd want to follow the same method and put some of the strawberries or pollen or what have you in there," he added.
EWW he was going to have to drink pollen water?? GROSS. "Maybe an anti-histamine too," he added as an afterthought. "To squash the symptoms before they start."
" No actually. This isn't a virus, it's not something we are curing per se. This is something that is making your body react only when it's in your system." She then sighed and added " Anti-allergen substances... right... but which ones?" Quote:

Muggles use them by themselves in medicine form, but perhaps we could add some of the active ingredients used in it. However, I don't know what those ingredients are," she said. " Yes, but which ones?" She asked. Quote:

"Professor, would you put some sort of anti-inflammatory thing in it?" Because that's what her mother always did when Krys decided to climb the poison oak. " Which ones." She said rolling her eyes, " I'm asking you all for ingredients, not a type of ingredient." Quote:

He angled his head on the Professor's question. They were to guess what the ingredients were? He furrowed his brows thoughtfully, what would he use to keep himself from puffing up? He was nervous all throughout Muggle Studies, could his nerves made his symptoms worse? Another tentative hand goes up "Professor, what about Valerian? Either the root or the sprigs? Its been known as a sedative and counteracts muscle spasms, and is a standard ingredient in several potions meant to relieve anxiety or induce sleep." " Yes. Valerian root is used because in combination with the other ingredients, it help render the allergy dormant." Quote:

She said shrugging. SPOILER!!: Bezoar Quote:

"They're used to help with the irritation from stinging nettles, because they're meant to contain some kind of anti-histi-something, and I think that's to do with your body not liking the nettle sting." He frowned, annoyed he couldn't complete the word. "And sneezewort, as allergies like hayfever involve lots of sneezing, and if it's been named appropriately it might help. " Yes dock leaves, for precisely that reason. It's a natural antihistamine. But certainly not sneezewort. That causes more allergies." She answered. Quote:

So she thought hardly of the ingredients she had studied during the summer, maybe there was one that could be possibly used in making the Anti-Allergen Potion.
After thinking for a while, she raised her hand, "Professor..how about Snakeweed?" Because from what she could remember, the weed was used to prevent irritation during the old times. " No snakeweed combats venom." She said. " That's more to combat a poison." Quote:

The actual brewing it practical part of the lesson always ended in some form of disaster. How was it thag she, who was commonly referred to as blow up in potions, always came back to this class? Well she knew the answer to that- she was required to have the class up until OWLs. After that she would spare Lafay the headache of Selina's awful potion brewing.
So when she asked the question Selina went with the only answer she knew, "Ma'am... Perhaps water?" " Yes. Water is the base of the potion." She said and smiled. " Very good." Quote:

But this time he could make an educated guess. He raised both hands and waited for eye contact before beginning. "Professor, I see three possibilities that haven't already been mentioned. The first is Ashwinder eggs. These are used to cure ague, which involves something similar to an allergice reaction, if I remember correctly. Second is fluxweed, which enables rapid changes. And I would want my antidote to a reaction to work as quickly as possible." Some people may want to stay swelled up like a puffer fish, but he didn't.
"And lastly, I think murtlap essence could be an ingredient. It's generally used to reduce inflammation, and that is often a big problem with allergic reactions." Hecate blinked. The boy was correct... but it surprised her. He was never the smartest kin in her class. " Uhmm... yes. to all three. Ashwinder Eggs, Fluxweed and murtlap essence are key to this potion." Quote:
Originally Posted by FireboltAvis88 Alyssa listened as she heard the others give their answers. Then she thought of something.'Yes add that the thing that we are allergic to. But would we add something of ourselves as well so that the potion knows for whom the ingredients are made of.'
So Alyssa raised her hand and asked."Professor would we add something of ourselves too, like for example our hair. So that there's something of what is making ourselves allergic in the potion, as well as, something of ourselves that is reacting to that substance in that same potion?" Alyssa knew that this was a wild guess but hoped that she was right. If not, it was still worth a try. " Uhmmm, no..." She said with a shrug. Quote:

She tapped her fingers noiselessly against her desktop as she tried to come up with something to say. Nothing. Absolutely nothing. This shouldn't be difficult for her--Sierra was normally so good at Potions. Hmm... Had she ever heard of anything--a plant or something--that may fit in here? Then her twin half-brother, Alex, spoke up and said something that triggered her memory. "What about parsley?" she asked, raising her hand. "I've always heard that it's a really good antihistamine that helps with things like hay fever or hives." She shrugged to herself. This one stumped her, but if they needed an antihistamine, her best guess was parsley. " Very good Miss Greingoth," She said with a smirk. Quote:

Hhmm... that was quite a tricky question. Vlimia raised her hand hesitantly and said "I know some people use herbal tea to soothe allergies, so maybe cinnamon, ginger, lemon, honey, or cloves." Because most of those ingredients were in herbal teas, right? "I have also heard that raw honey helps battle allergies..." Vlim said, thinking back to a book about honey she had read. " Raw honey is quite powerful, yes. It's an ingredient." and she nodded. " Very good."
Moving to the board she magically made the ingredients appear on the board: Water
10 drops Valerian root
10 drops Salamander Blood
2 dock leaves
1 Ashwinder Egg
4 sprigs Fluxweed
10 drops Murtlap Essence
2 sprigs Parsley
3 spoons Raw honey
5 Basil leaves
1 whole Papaya
1 Ginger Root
17 Reishi (mushroom of immortality)
" Alright now. Start by filling your cauldrons with water! And don't forget the 5 C's of potion making." She said and walked through the class.
