"Probably for the best," Aspen laughed, too, "You might be permanently confused if you could hear all my thoughts."
....there it was again. He was looking at the puzzle piece again. It hadn't changed since the first day, the first time, when Aspen nearly fell out of her chair. The difference now is that Aspen didn't have anywhere to fall, no tables to crawl under, no books to hide under. All she had was his hand, conveniently located right at her ear. Aspen took his hand and used it to HIDE the top half of her face. She was still smiling, but... "Cornelius..." WHAT are you looking at???
Cornelius couldn't quite hide his amusement as Aspen informed him that it might've been for the best that he couldn't hear all of her thoughts, as he might've been permanently confused. He gave a brief shrug, still finding her to be excessively amusing to him, and his grin only widened at what she did next.
He watched as she took his hand and used it to hide the top half of her face, only exposing her smile to him.
"What?" he complained playfully as she said his name, letting out a soft chuckle.
Before he could think too much about it, he removed his own hand from over her eyes, leaning towards her playfully with a soft smile on his expression.
"You have no reason to hide, Aspen," Cornelius announced, raising his eyebrows at her as though daring her to contradict it.
"Of all the things at this school you seem to appreciate so much, you give yourself an embarassingly small amount of credit."
In the next moment Cornelius had released her hands, starting to get up from his seat on the floor.
"I've gotta go," he announced reluctantly, having just glanced at the time for the first time since he'd gotten there.
"Do me a favor though?" he suggested, taking a backwards step towards the exit.
"Keep your eye out for an invitation to a study engagement." He paused, furrowing his brows just slightly as though considering something.
"...and stop covering your face up. I like to see it."
With that, he turned around and started out of the dungeon corridor.
