Sierra froze in place when she felt a slight poke on her back. She whirled around to face--some Puffer. She'd never seen him before. Ehh...
"A seven," she said.
"Alright..." "Let's go with...October 7," she said.
9 + 7 = 16
1 + 6 = 7

Which was good though; they had fun while also incorporating some Arithmancy into the game. See! Whoever said Arithmancy was all boring calculations was sadly mistaken.
A glance at her wristwatch though told her that the lesson was nearly up and so she gave a sharp whistle to grab their attentions.
"Alright then, before we go, let's have a small discussion about the game. You can just stand wherever you are or have a seat on the floor..." whichever. This wasn't anything terribly formal where they needed to move the desks and chairs back for. "In calculating a new personal Day number, did you notice any sorts of patterns among the numbers?" Preferably something she may or may not have pointed out earlier in the lesson.
...and just as she'd been tagged and figured out a new date, a sharp whistle sounded throughout the room. Dear MERLIN! Was it quite necessary to do
that?! Sierra felt like glaring at Hadley, but of course she refrained.
...and then she wanted them to have a seat on the floor? Oh this just kept getting better and better. THE FLOOR! Like a bunch of animals! Or a house elf one...
Nevertheless, Sierra took a seat then raised her hand.
"I did," she said.
"The number I started with was nine, and each time I was tagged by a different number, all I had to do was match the date to the number I'd been given. For example, I just got tagged by a seven, so I chose October 7. Nine plus seven is sixteen, and then when you add one plus six, you come up with seven--the number I got changed to."
Of course she hadn't always gone the easy route.
"Another way to do it is to find two numbers that add up to the number you're trying to reach. If I wanted to get to seven, I could choose a date like October 25, because two plus five is seven. So then I can just add nine to seven, come up with sixteen again, and add one plus six to get to seven," she explained.
