He had already spent what seemed like an hour searching for her. And he was about to give up, but then he saw her. Yes, he could see her even from this far away. She was at the gates... just holding onto them, looking up. Following her gaze, Dallin looked up too. And... oh. Thestrals. Dallin frowned. He didn't fully understand how he could see them, since the only person he had seen die was Ellie, and she hadn't really done that, not fully.

It didn't matter, anyway. Dallin shook his head, trying to clear his thoughts and expression as he made his way over to Ellie. When he was closer he took a breath... then walked over to her. He looked down as he reached for the gate, holding onto two bars. After a second, he looked up at the thestrals flying over them.

...

He didn't know what to say.

It had been stupid to come over here in the first place.

Watching the creatures was kind of relaxing. Distracting. A little bit of both. It was keeping her mind off of other things she didn't really want to think about, so that was good. Ellie watched one of them land back on the ground and sniff the grass. She froze when she heard footsteps behind her.

Part of her hoped it was Dallin because she had missed him the past few days they had been avoiding each other. The other part of her silently begged it wasn't him because this was all her fault. She was the one that brought her past up and made Dallin get upset at her. She was the one to blame for her decisions. The fight was her fault. Dallin was hurt because of her. He wouldn't have left if he wasn't.

Ellie was convinced that she was a horrible person.

When the person approached the gate and held on, Ellie glanced over at them. It was Dallin. Her heart skipped a beat and she leaned her head against the gate with a small sigh. But a couple seconds, later she stood up straight and folded her arms, looking back up at thestrals.

She had no idea what to do. She had no idea what to say. Apparently he didn't either, because he wasn't talking or moving. Then why was he here? Ellie squinted, even though it wasn't sunny. It was just... weird. Being next to him like this. Not talking. Not knowing what the hell was going on. It wasn't good, Ellie knew that.
