Oh. The front gate. Right.
Ellie vaguely remembered actually leaving the castle and walking all the way down the grounds to the iron fence. She didn't even know why she was here. Ellie leaned up against the fence and held on the the cool metal bars as she watched the peculiar animals. They seemed so... graceful. At peace. Much more so than Ellie could imagine being. Ugh. ...Dallin didn't know why he was doing this. Especially now. It'd been a few days since he and Ellie had fought, and he was only now going to look for her. Granted, he had gone to look for her after Treyen had suggested it... but he hadn't had any luck with that. So he was trying again. And he was starting with the grounds.
He had already spent what seemed like an hour searching for her. And he was about to give up, but then he saw her. Yes, he could see her even from this far away. She was at the gates... just holding onto them, looking up. Following her gaze, Dallin looked up too. And... oh. Thestrals. Dallin frowned. He didn't fully understand how he could see them, since the only person he had seen die was Ellie, and she hadn't really done that, not fully.
It didn't matter, anyway. Dallin shook his head, trying to clear his thoughts and expression as he made his way over to Ellie. When he was closer he took a breath... then walked over to her. He looked down as he reached for the gate, holding onto two bars. After a second, he looked up at the thestrals flying over them.
...
He didn't know what to say.
It had been stupid to come over here in the first place.
