He eyed Dash for a moment. "I'm sure you all already know about the controversy surrounding Merpeoples' chosen classification as beasts instead of beings, yes?" If not, perhaps Dash would like to add on to that?

"Most of them won't." He said as he caught Willy's glance. So he wanted HIM to explain? Ugh. He did not teach them about Merpeople in his class, they were just as bad as goblins."Unless they have read their textbooks of course."

Dash turned back around to the students. "In the 14th century Burdock Muldoon who was the Chief of the Wizards' Council decided to create classifications of all magical creatures. He deemed Beings as any creature that could walk on two legs. Then held a meeting to discuss laws." Stupid on his part really. "Needless to say Augureys, Trolls and Pixies as well as other creatures, do not get along too well, and that resulted in chaos."

"Elfrida Clagg, replaced Muldoon as Chief eventually and tried to set another definition, her's being that a Beings could speak the Human tongue. Since Merpeople could not talk above water, they were offended by this, as were Centaurs and refused the definition on behalf of the Merpeople"

Were they going to write this down? It would probably be hard, but he hoped they would remember. "In 1811, The Ministry of Magic replaced the Wizards Council and decided that Beings, were any creature that have enough intelligence to understand the laws of the magical community and to bear part of the responsibility in shaping those laws. Which would make Merpeople, Beings" He paused. "However Merpeople along with Centaurs rejected this notion due to the fact that they did not agree with the classification of some of the other creatures who were put in the category such as Vampires and hags." Merpeople were difficult creatures, just like Centaurs. "And so by default, they are known as Beasts." Epic history lesson over. He looked at William. Happy?

She didn't really know anything about merpeople, why bothering answering right? Besides, she didn't want to risk losing points in case she spewed out total nonsense. Slytherin was already so far behind..and it's only the beginning of the term!

Then professor Williamson started talking about why merpeople were classified as beasts - which in her opinion seemed totally unfair. After all, they are half human too...sort of? Thankfully, before she could ask for some sort of clarification, Professor Scabior stepped in. As he spoke, she scribbled answers into her piece of paper, occasionally dipping her quill back into the inkwell that she placed on the ground.

"This DOES make him a candidate for the 'being' classification, as Da--- Professor Scabior said, EXCELLENT point!" he nearly applauded for the boy right then and there.

But. "The real question is: Does Bartholomew Henry WANT the classification of 'being,' since both merpeople and centaurs have refused it in the past? And what's more, are the rumors that Mr. Henry is actually Godric Gryffindor in animagus form true?"

He winked at the students and turned toward the Giant Squid, bowing deeply toward him. "What are your thoughts on these questions, Sir Squid?"

Whilst waiting for Everett to tell his story, Barty sank down into the depths of the lake a bit more, though he was still very visible to the class. "Any other questions for me, children?" he threw out. Might as well get those over with.

What questions for the squid? As in the giant pink squid? He was kidding, right? But then, before she could object or anything, her classmates had started asking the squid questions and he started talking...

WHAT IN THE NAME OF MERLIN?!

Talking squid. That was just freaky.

and yet, she couldn't help but join the mass of students that were asking. After all, it wasn't everyday that you see a giant talking squid and she wanted to seize the opportunity.

"Uh, Mr. Giant Squid, Sir?" She began, unsure on how to address him. "How did you even into Hogwarts lake exactly?" She asked, wasn't the lake a closed body of water? What would a squid - which she thought was a salt water animal - be doing in the middle of the lake?
