Sure his last girlfriend was a year younger, and he couldn't truthfully deny that he still liked her, but he also noticed strange feelings for another girl. A fifth year. But he couldn't really figure out what they were. Not yet anyway.

"The dark? That's not so uncommon, plenty of people are afraid of the dark. Or at least, what lies in the dark." He wasn't afraid of the dark, sometimes he liked it better at night than in the day. It gave him more time to dream and think to himself for hours to himself without interruption. As she said her next fear, Christopher had to stifle a laugh. "Snails?" Trying to calm his snickers, he smirked at her, trying not to laugh and be mean. "Sorry, sorry.. Not funny. But... Why snails, may I ask?" Snails really weren't the typical fear a fifteen year old girl, as far as he knew. So what made Cass afraid of them? Did she just think they were gross, or was there a more valid, traumatic experience? He thought he'd hear her out before he tried to laugh too much. He didn't want to hurt her feelings.

"Oh, sure. Just because you have fears, it doesn't make you not brave. Bravery is more about facing them, you know? Standing up when others won't. The cheesy stuff you hear about in old movies." He was pretty sure Cass knew what movies were.. right? Some people didn't, but as they were learning about it in Muggle Studies, she probably had a good enough idea even if she wasn't too familiar with them out of school. "My fears are a little different though. They aren't really like yours." He wasn't so sure he wanted to talk about his fears, though Cass basically already knew them. The only thing he was really afraid of was losing anyone else he loved. His parents, his sister, his girlfriend, his only friends in the Muggle world... They were all gone, or at least slipping away. He was afraid of being alone, of loss. And Selina when she was mad at him.

Oh, she knew a bit of French, too, eh? This ought to be interesting. "Oh, so it appears I'm not the only one who speaks it? Give it a go! I'd love to hear," he joked, curious to hear Cass speak in foreign tongues. It would either be impressive or hilarious, so either way, he was sure it couldn't go wrong. For him, anyway.
"I knew that." She insisted with a roll of her eyes as she stuck her tongue out petulantly. For some reason, she felt like the situation was oddly familiar, as if it was some weird case of Déjà vu...except, she realized that it really did happen. Different words, different location, but same outcome. She really had to work on her comebacks better. She couldn't have one liner replies all the time. "You're lucky I can't think straight at the moment." She said with a chuckle as she shook her head, still a bit disappointed at the absence of a witty remark.

The blonde then started fiddling with the hem of her skirt, as if ashamed to meet his eyes at the confession of such a pathetic fear. "I guess so." She murmured as if trying to convince herself. Then she glared at him when he started holding back laughter "There is nothing funny about snails." She said, her face grim. "They are absolutely gross and are...are..terrible!" She cried out, as she shivered, remembering how she woke up covered from chest up with snails when she was 10. Damn Ed and his stupid pranks. "It took hours to get all that snail goo out of my skin, and even longer to wash it out of my pajamas..." She recalled. Then, noticing the look on his face, she decided that he needed some sort of explanation. So, she took a deep breath and began telling her story "When I was kid, I had a friend named Ed Enticiler. Ed and I hated each other's guts and so we would always prank one another. Now one time, he slept over at my house along with another friend of ours, Heather. That night, he placed possibly hundreds of snails on me while I was asleep, and so when I woke up, I was covered with the slimy little creatures...needless to say, I've never liked them since."

"Spoken like a true Gryffindor." She joked as he started talking about facing your fears and all that. Something about the way he said it reminded her of another old movie, one that Lyra was so particularly fond of, Princess whatever it was. Maybe he knew what it was too? Who knows.

Aren't like her's? Oh. Oh yeah. It was pretty stupid of her to start talking about fears..."I know." She said quietly as she bit her lip, obviously troubled. She didn't want Christopher's thought steering towards that again, the guy had enough problems as it is.."Sorry"

When he offered that she try out speaking French, she blushed a deep red and shook her head vigorously and stammered out "M-Me? Speak..French?" She repeated absolutely flabbergasted. "I would look totally silly." She said with a small frown "I don't think I could." She insisted, especially if Christopher was fluent in it. She didn't want to look stupid in front of him. "Make me do anything else, just not that." She offered as she chuckled nervously, hoping that he would take her up on her suggestion.
