Besides, CMEC wasn't as focused on interrogation as some other parts of the department. "So your father influenced your decision," he added as she answered his question about what had brought her to the Ministry. It wasn't condemnation, just an idle check that she'd meant what she'd said. Most people didn't think art was a valid career choice, honestly. Just because he'd never had to deal with that... "That's entirely possible." Some things were just better as hobbies.
But then the topic was back on himself, and he tried not to sigh. He couldn't deny she had the logic part down, that any lawyer would have, and he'd dealt with a few. "Nothing like your story, I have to say." If he had to answer, it was going to be on his own terms. And he honestly didn't have all the education she'd had, not at any school. "Personal experiences simply made this job a good fit, even if sometimes it's proven more difficult than it should." "I guess you could say that," Laurie replied with yet another shrug. "It was never a strong enough passion for me to pursue like that anyway. Like I said...just a hobby." And she didn't hold her father responsible for that it was just the way things worked out.
Way to be vague. Looking away she shook her head slightly and took another sip of her drink. "You should know I'm as stubborn as they come..." she said with a slight smirk in his direction before picking out some more fruit. She'd get her answer at some point it was just a matter of time. "Fine, Mr. Tamerlane, you win this round." She eyed him curiously for a moment almost trying to see through him and shrugged. "Alright, so tell me this, why don't you have a girlfriend? Do you just not have time for one? You're quite good looking. I'm sure it's not a problem of no one wanting you." She knew she didn't have that problem. She had the opposite, with everyone hitting on her even ignoring the obvious not interested sign on her forehead. Though she did have the time problem but more by choice since she had commitment and trust issues that had just increased ten fold. Sigh. |
