Eino protested, with the facial expression to prove it. Cornelius didn't seem to be as keen on this plan as Eino was, which was most likely the cause for his following chuckles. They were clearly on completely different pages, and it was apparent that Cornelius realized this when he didn't see Eino smiling and stopped.
"Well, you see, if she does accept to go out with you then it's because she's not interested in me." That sounded a lot sadder when he said it out loud than when he thought it, but it was still a genial plan, or so he thought. Eino paused and listened to Cornelius speak, realizing this was the longest he had ever spoken at once, which meant it was the longest he had ever gone without smiling. Non-smiley Cornelius began to look... weird. "Why wouldn't you go out with her? She is very delightful." Eino wasn't quiet sure why Cornelius was so opposed to the idea of dating Sierra, but he was curious. Sierra did have a small reputation for being a little she-snake, in other words, not always very pleasant to some people, especially the Hufflepuffs, but Eino wouldn't think that Cornelius believed it, or that he had heard about it.
Cornelius quieted his small rant of confusion as Eino spoke, beginning to explain that if Sierra accepted Cornelius's offer of a date, then it would be because she was not interested in Eino, and then he would know for sure. The new student opened his mouth to retort, even raising up a slightly pointed finger as though this was going to help emphasize the point he was about to make, but then he realized...he didn't have a point. The plan made...unfortunate sense, in its own way. Cornelius lowered his pointed finger and closed his mouth as his brows furrowed, letting Eino's explanation sink in.
Before he could really reply, Eino was asking why he wouldn't want to go out with this girl, if she said yes, even adding that she was delightful. Cornelius's expression cracked into a bit of a grin, unable to not just be a bit amused by Eino.
"Because, Eino, she's delightful to you, she means something to you," he explained with a shake of his head and a soft chuckle.
"I wouldn't even consider actually dating a girl you find 'delightful'," he continued, his expression entirely honest as he flashed him a weak smile.
"Friends don't do that." He knew they met each other recently, but Cornelius thought of the two of them as friends, and suddenly hoped that Eino didn't think it was strange for him to already consider them as such.
He let out a bit of a sigh, his mind obviously still running over this whole ask-out-the-girl thing. It wasn't
that bad of an idea... And he honestly thought that she would definitely decline a random student asking her out. But what if, on some crazy one-in-a-million chance, she said yes? He would hate if Eino didn't get the girl
because of him! That was the opposite of his intentions! He wanted Eino to get the girl with his help! But...if she said no, as he was pretty positive she would, it would undoubtedly renew Eino's confidence in the potential relationship between himself and this she-snake...
"If you really want this, then I will, as your friend, ask her out just to see her response," Cornelius decided after a few moments of thought.
"But are you completely positive you want me to?"
