And I'd like to think I'm hers, too." Even though Ellie hadn't talked to Treyen about him before. He looked to the ground for a moment before an expression of alarm crossed his face and he stammered, "Besides you, of course. I mean. She talks about you and the basis of a... relationship should always be friendship. So, I mean, obviously you're there." Well, it SHOULD have meant that they were there. Max had never been around Treyen and Ellie long enough to see how they interacted with each other. He didn't really want to know. The idea made his stomach churn.
Max nodded in agreement at Treyen's comment on the house points. "Yeah, honestly, it's always funny to see which house will be furthest in the negatives at the beginning of the term. This year, it seems no one got the memo... or the professors are more lenient? Or maybe all the rule-breakers left - y'know, got scared now that you're Head Boy. You chased them off, didn't you?"
This was new.
Meeting someone that was close to her, that is. Usually, they were both acquainted with whoever managed to be around them. How come he's never heard of Max before, eh? That was...something he was going to ask her. AND BEST FRIEND? Seriously? Like him and Arya? Now he was rather curious as to why Max wasn't mentioned. Treyen had even told Ellie about Aaron before...and he doesn't even attend Hogwarts.
This was new. But certainly fun. He'd met one of Ellie's best friends...and he'd only know the boy existed thanks to Quidditch. Not cool, Eliana Stone.
"I...didn't know." OBVIOUSLY, LOCKHART. He shouldn't have said that, he'd probably hurt the boy's feelings, right? Nah, he was best friends with Ellie, it didn't matter if she spoke to others about him.
"Yet I'm entirely glad to find out about you. It's certainly nice to meet you, Max." The smile on his face was a real one.
Mmmhmm. Yes. He agreed on the relationship-friendship bit. Granted, he'd been friends with Ellie before he even realized he liked her. And it was her friendship what he was most afraid of losing. So, he nodded, but didn't comment. It's probably important to say that the part 'she talks about you' made him blush a lot more than before.
Too late about the house points.
"I don't think so." He chased no one off. Not even Tye. And he'd wanted to.
"Looks like Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff are coming down as well."
