The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences first announced their long list for the Visual Effects category potential nominees for the 2012 Academy Awards in December, and now that list has been narrowed down to ten.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, as announced by AMPAS today, still remains in the top ten contenders up for the nominations for achievement in visual effects. The final five nominees will be chosen on Tuesday, January 24, 2012.

Deathly Hallows: Part 2, along with its art direction team led by multiple Oscar-winner Stuart Craig, was nominated for a 2012 Art Directors Guild Award in the fantasy category. The Harry Potter series as a whole will be recognised as the
honorary outstanding contribution to cinematic imagery award from the Art Directors Guild at a lavish ceremony to take place as a highlight of ADG’s 16th Annual Excellence in Production Design Awards on February 4, 2012. Among those to receive that honour include author J.K. Rowling, producers David Heyman and David Barron, screenwriter Steve Kloves, and director David Yates.
